What do u call it when youre standing holding a bar(usually curl bar) hands close together (about in the middle of the bar) and you pull it up towards your chin?? It seems to hit the traps really well and some shoulders. Just dunno the name of it. ANy help on this 1??
I"m having to switch things up since i can't do heavy work anymore due to an injury so i'm trying to find as many relatively light effective exercises as possible.

watch your shoulders mate, many a gym rat has injured themself doing upright rows

I agree I am not a fan of upright rows, there are better ways to work one's traps--deadlifts for instance.

they can be done with dumbells too. when i do them i prefer to use a cable with an e-z bar attachment.

Yeha....i fully agree that deads are hands down the best. I hurt something in my hip. THe physical therapist thinks i tore some cartilage SO... no more deads, squats, jack shit... sux
thats y i'm resorting to these

What's your timetable on a return to heavy lifting?

Some of the old school BBer's take a wide grip when doing upright's. I love them. I haven't been training lately when I do I incorporate them every chest/ shoulder day. The wide grip takes less strain on ya and really bulks the traps and side delts. If you got an injury you might wanna stick with the cable machine form is true to form and still helps traps a little.

But Daeds are still the almighty!

I would not perform upright rows with a shoulder injury. They place your shoulder in a very compromising biomechanical position that predisposes you to injury.

i don't know. the physical therapist thought it was torn cartilage and that usually takes surgury. If he's right, I prob. won't be able to for a long time. But i still need to have an mri or scan done to find out for sure. Just came at a really bad time and don't have much $$
It seems to be getting better on its own as long as I don't strain it much, but i'm still gonna need it checked out more.
So 2 answer your ? i really don't know. Prob. no time soon. :(

That sux bro, your lifts were really coming along nicely. Hopefully it's not a tear and you'll be back before you know it. Good luck and luckily a speedy recovery!
