What is the board's take on diet sodas?

The ONLY reason why people are obese is because of one thing and one thing only, povided the induvidual doesnt have a thyroid issue, food addiction, illness, or something of that nature. Neither of which is a certain food or drink.

The reason. They eat too much based on activity level. More cals in than out.

You can eat shit food and be in shape.

You can eat good food and be outta shape.

Its the AMOUNT comsumed not WHAT is consumed.

the problem isn't the sugar alcohols themselves.. its that people who drink diet soda tend to eat more calories...

they think drinking diet soda gives them a hall pass to eating shit..

if you have diet soda and fast food, youre still having fast food!!!

statistically, those who drink diet soda are more likely to be obese...

How can that be right?

If a guy asks for a 'diet' soda - it means he is aware of calorie intake and wants to do something to limit it.

If a person didn't give a fuck about calorie intake, they wouldn't give a shit whether their coke was normal or diet.

A person who orders a diet soda is less likely to order junk food - that's a given!

I have noticed that a lot of people will drink diet sodas as their act to show they are trying to lose weight. Many of my grossly obese friends (talking 45% body fat and higher) drink diet sodas but still eat 5 portions of food at every meal (seriously). So while they ARE conscious of the 200 calories they are saving with the diet soda (per 20oz bottle), they are not worrying about the 3000 calories per meal they are eating. They are hungry, they eat. Done.

I will add that eating shit food makes it harder to be in shape, but you are correct, you can still get there provided you do not over eat. This is assuming you are at least getting all the needed nutrients or using a vitamin pill to help out.

That is inconsequential.... you don't need all the nutrients or vitamins to be 'in shape'.

Yes, they give you vitality and well-being, but they have fuck all to do with you being 'in shape'.

You are all better off if you drink gasoline, leaded. Those diet drinks are worst than the regular soda drinks. They have hundreds of hidden chemicals that completely alter your bodies composition and gets into your DNA and changes it for ever and not for the better and brings out the worst in you so all your defects will exaggerate. Use your common sense and stay away from those cancer/diabetes causing drinks. All of you'll should know better.

Milton: I don't drink diet sodas but I would be interested in seeing evidence of this of you have it at your disposal. I am always looking to learn!

This is the stuff that I have read in the past. This article is on Mercola . com which is a pretty well known website. There are many articles like this one out there and this is what steers me away from diet drinks. I really dont know what to believe and I dont have time or patients to figure it out. Bottom line diet soda offers nothing for me. I drink water and keep it simple.

I was about to completely dissect that article but then I remembered how Mercola is about as reliable as Dr Oz:

Joseph Mercola D.O. - The Skeptic's Dictionary - Skepdic.com

FDA Orders Dr. Joseph Mercola to Stop Illegal Claims

When the government has taken action against you for making bullshit claims and your listed on a site called quackwatch...forgive me if I don't take anything you say seriously.

Strong recommend to completely ignore that site :)

I posted about this topic a while ago. I eat Clean foods pretty much year round and was slowly losing sanity (till I came across a few zero cal drinks). They helped me out a lot.

Now a days I stil drink a lot of diet products. I've not had any issues with them at all. Most diet sodas contain Aspartamne as the prime source.

Aspartamne Does not affect Insulin levels, No blood sugar levels raises, no Calories/weight gain
Aspartamne contains: phenylalanine and aspartic acid. Little found in Pop, but 13x in Milk glass.

Got that from the diabetes.org site.

I think Diet sodas are over rated and 3J is right about obesity and diet sodas relation. I do tend to find that most healthy people, skinny and average shape do not drink diet sodas, but more often the over weight people drink them a ton. I have a few friends that drink diet sodas every time we go to a place and they are over weight. if anything, they really help with a cut and to keep u feeling better for the short term. Even on a bulk, if they make u want more food and ur diet is clean complex carbs for the most part, then it might not be a bad thing.

Some things from the media are defo over rated and I for sure feel diet sodas are on of them. Same with gear related problems as well. Just blown out of proportion now a days.

Most of the guys on this site have BMI's that place them in the Overweight or Obese category.

I'm not even on the chart. :(

Soooooooooooo, that unleaded gasoline... Higher octane taste better, or stick with mid-grade? I have a two to three can a day Rockstar (sugar free) habit, and often drink a few glasses of diet coke when eating out.

FYI: The way to tell if a fat person is trying to justify extra calories by drinking the diet stuff is looking at what they eat. Diet coke but three slices of cheesecake? There ya go. ;)

Personally, I like the way Coke Zero and Pepsi Max taste - I actually prefer their taste over the real soda!

It's in the really fine print, next to how Mountain Dew kills sperm, and Dr Pepper has real ground up doctors in it. ;)

My gosh, Im gonna really have to start being more careful so I dont further subject myself to these risks!!!:o Cant believe I let this happen.

Damn fine print.....why you so sneeky?!

Neither Mega. I just like having one or two when Im working. Some of the flavors I like have sugar and some are sugar free. :)

Sugar AND sugar free?!?

Bro seriously, SERIOUSLY bro - your like, going to get double the cancer and like die twice or something.
