I was curious what a good meal would be prior to lifting. I usually eat chicken breats and rice or pineapple. Sometimes I eat eggs and oatmeal. I always wait about an hour and ahalf after I eat otherwise it comes back up doin heavy leg press or deads. What do you guys eat prior to lifting?

I try and get at least 50 grams of protein and lots of carbs. If you lack the carbs, you'll run out of energy by the time you are done your workout.

What carb source do you like?

Depends on the time of year. If I am trying to keep bodyfat off, I'll go with Oatmeal, Pasta, Potatoes, etc.

If I am trying to bulk up, I'll eat whetever I feel like :D The above, or maybe a few burgers, pizza <--- Probably not the best choices, but you need to live a little once and a while. If I ate clean every meal every day I would go insane.

i take in 1 cup oats about 1 hour to 1.5 hours pre-workout. i used to add in protein but it doesnt do much pre-workout. i have dextrose/whey post-workout though.

Yeah, i agree, I just started throwing oats in my pre workout shake(50grams of protein\5grams of creatine w\dex) and let me tell yuo it works like a charm on my workouts.

for me oats are the best pre workout thorw a little splenda and maple syrup in it good to go

I usually have rolled oats, rye bread, multi-grain bread, or pasta about 1-1.5hrs prior to workout. Then 15-30min prior to workout I have protein shake (usually 30grams)w/1 or 2 whole eggs, then 8-16oz of apple juice(w/my creatine). Sometimes I just use water instead of apple juice.
I notice, if I skip my carbs and just go w/the protien, I don't have as much energy in the gym. If my schedual is really packed I sometimes just get time to grab a couple granola bars on the go. THen make my protein shake when I get home. THen hit the gym. But like oats or pasta about the best.

It sounds like the general consensus is oats. Guees Ill just mix my whey powder with water instead of whole milk and throw some quaker oats in. Maybe about a cup I guess? Ive also looked high and low for dextrose to put in my p/wo shake but I can't find that anywhere. Even tried a beer wine ,making shop, no-go.

for the dex go and buy some gatorade powder mix

Thanx for the tip man. I was walkin up and down the iles in wal-mart lookin for it. So some people drink dex before w/o's as well?

well you need dex w\creatine to deliver it, so i have always taken 5 grams of creaitne before and 5 right after a workout.

My preworkout is 44grams of protein 30 grams of carbs\sugars of gatorade mix , 5 grams of creatine. And now i have been throwinig in 1\2 of a cup of oats and it has been working well. After i workout i take 44 grams of protein w\water 30grams of carbs\dex and then an hour later i have a huge meal.

I might be switching it up a bit and going with 10grams of creatine right after my workout w\60 grams of carbs(dex).

good luck bro

That sounds good man. It seems like a lot of guys are sayin p/wo should be 2-1 100grams of dex 50gr pro.?

I go to the gym right after work, so I take a tupperware container with me that already contains a half cup of oats, 60g of whey protein powder, some powdered nonfat milk, and a few raisins for flavor. It's the easiest thing in the world to make for a quick meal a couple of hours before lifting by just popping it in the microwave. The protein powder also adds a lot of flavor to the usually bland oatmeal, which is a nice plus.

Preworkout - 75grams Maltodextrin

Postworkout - 50g protein
100g Maltodextrin

I may though, add in Oatmeal preworkout, & just drink the Maltodextrin during the workout.

I don't eat the oatmeal. Drink it. It's much easier, and its faster. :insane2:

You guys just kill me -

Although complex carbs are good long lasting sources. What are you using in the short term.

Liver Glycogen is the most readily available source of energy!!!

So use a carb that fills up liver glycogen - FRUIT!

Mix complex carb and fruit for the best results.
