Wrist straps cheating?

This is kinda like the "shirted bench" questions. Who all thinks wrist straps are cheating? I use them when i deadlift and thats about it. What do you all have to say tho?

it has nothing to do with a shirted bench, nor is it anything like a shirted bench. Who gives a shit if people think it is cheating or not, wrist wraps = illegal in comp, bench shirts = necessity in comp. What part of the two are similar.

how can you cheat when youre doing something for personal enjoyment/development? straps allows you to go heavier for longer on back and other compound movements.

i can't say using strap is cheating..because most of the grip strength still comes from you. The strap is there only to assist..but not to prevent from slipping completely. Or it's a subsitute when you don't have chalk...like me...x.x

I have yet to find a weight that I can't hold on to for one rep whethger that be shrugs etc. But after multiple reps it becomes a different story.

I use wrist hooks.

I use them, b/c they don't allow chalk in my gym. Just b/c I can't pull 405 x 5 without straps doesn't mean I can't hit 450+ raw for 1 rep. They are a good training tool that allows you to continue to train back when your grips starts to go.

No...im not saying they are similar. All im saying is, some think shirted bench is cheating, and some think wrist straps are cheating. I just wanted to know what everyone thought. Thats all. I never said they were alike in any way. I said its "like the questions"...not they were alike. Theres the other thread about the shirted bench and i thought i would ask this bc there are tons of diff. views on both. simple as that.

Sorry man this is totally incorrect. Most of the grip comes from the strap - the roll of the bar will tighten the straps hold on the bar - the grip comes from the friction between the knerls and the strap. I mean yea you need to hold the bar in the first place but its basically a suicide grip long as your gripping even a little.

I didn't know bro! Thanks for the words! ^^

My forearms still tire wearing straps but they still make the impossible, possible.

As for it being cheating, I am in the gym to lift for MYSELF. I dont need to follow what other people say is the right way to train, I dont need to follow their routines or their technique.

Straps is a personal choice.

i like you...

i use them all the time.you can't use em when you lift in a meet, but when you train heavy for reps it''s a must for me.nothing wrong with straps nothing at all!

I just use them for the heavy sets of deads and rows. Everything else I ride bare-back.

I use em for everything from pullups, deads, to dumbbell curls. Very veritile tool when going heavy.

My forearms suck so I squeeze in any grip work I can, but I never compromise a heavy lift b/c of a pus*y grip!

at the end of a long back or pulling day i have to use straps because my grip go to crap and I figure hell I must have already got in some good grip work now its time to get my other muscles big. For my grip stregth isn't a big deal I need and want big legs and a strong lower back witch has crap to do with grip.
