Wrist straps cheating?

Wrist straps are a tool that we use to assist our workouts. grip strength should be worked on every week. i think as long as we work on and improve grip strength, it is ok to use straps when needed, as long as we don't use them until we need to use them. i see some guys at the gym use them for pulldowns, pullups, and light sets of rows and deads etc. i don't agree with that.

Yeah, we can tell you don't judging by the size of your friggin forearms:)

I used to think my dead was stuck, I was using chalk and I thought that was enough for my grip. I tried straps one day and my 5RM for deads has shot up almost 100lbs in the past few months

I train grip regularly. Never use straps, just chalk on DLs when going really heavy if the bar has shitty knurling. I do it mostly for the support grip benefits but mostly because when I say I can DL X amount I like knowing that I can do it straight up without the use of gear assistance. Just like saying you can squat X without a suit or bench X without a shirt. I think its relative to what your goals are how you view it.

How about when I hear the under-200 club gym fags talk about how Im cheating because Im using wrist straps for dumbbell curls. Do you really think I cant hold onto 70 lbs? Gimme a break. Discuss.

no, i don't think you can hold om to em'. but if you do some finger tip push ups it amy help strengthen your wrists and grip strength so that one day you can.

haha...thats what im talkin about!! :devil2:

Some people will say anything to make themselves look better...

I use them because I want to get the most out of my workout doing whatever movement I'm doing. If I'm doing shrugs, rows and deadlifts in the SAME workout do you really think I want to workout my grip for 15 sets of backwork too? No, I want to do my 15 sets of back work (example) and a couple sets of possible grip work seperately.

Forearms are small muscles and should not have to do the same workload as your back.

I dont use them for bicep curls but my forearms do get very tired if I do higher reps of bicep work.

P.S. I can still rip a 2 inch phone book in half.

using the technique I know your using pretty much anyone can, lol.

Thats supposed to be a secret :D And no, not everyone can. I am lucky in that I have slightly large hands, as well as some grip.

nothing wrong with straps for back work. esp if you dont compete in pling or strong man stuff. even then they have their place.

when i pulled 804 from the floor i used straps cause i wantd to know if i could pull it and didnt want to miss it cause of grip probs. i pulled 766 without straps then added straps for the 804.

When you start breaking chains, let me know. :)

I can rip you a deck of cards if you'd like? Chains depend big time on the diff types so I've nvr really gotten into that.

I am betting the cards is tough, I haven't tried that. I've read some tricks on picking shitty decks to rip though, but phone books fine with me.

I'd love to do chains, but I dont find any trickery on the internet for that. :D

I do know that Bill Pearl could do chains, and he was a 450 bencher - I wasn't far from that but I dont see myself ripping up even shitty little chains, just keychains. :laugh4: Kind of hard to work that into a party act, "oh look, a chain. BEHOLD!!!"

Oh well.
