Z-track injections

So I'm getting tired of that little bit of gear that seeps out of the site after you've just finished an injection. I'm gonna try z-track injections as they move the tissue over and create an air lock, sealing everything in. My question to you guys is how safe is it to be pushing that little bit of air into your body with every injection? Also your not supposed to massage this kind of injection afterwards, but i feel it would probably be wise to still apply pressure and massage.

uh,

I leave a little air bubble in my syringe. Poke aiming down just a hair, the air bubble with come to the top of the gear. Push slowly and right when the air buble is about to hit the needle, push down hard.

hold needle in butt for 20 secounds. pull out quickly(thats what she said)

and WALA!

Haha alright i'll try it, i guess with injecting at an angle and having the air enter after the gear the air will sit on top rather than entering your deep tissue and causing a problem

Some RN's leave 0.2 to 0.5 ml of air in the needle to prevent seepage. Air is probably more concerning when dealing with intravenous medications.

I leave .1ml air in everytime I inject. It's not a problem at all. I leave the pin in for about 20-30 seconds and I massage the are after.

I haven't tried keeping a little air in the syringe yet...

... "Great info guys!"

Air in a IM inject is completely harmless. Even a little air in a IV inject is harmless. I always leave a little air in my pin. If you have oil leaking out of injection site inject slower and leave the pin for 15-30 sec after you're done.

Good info man.

i dont leave it in that long .. just a couple seconds .. but i do keep that little air bubble in the syringe so as not to waste any of the oil by letting it slip out or sit in the needle itself..!! never had any probs...
