another 5x5 question

Someone posted this question on another board and I also would like to know the anser.....

when you start out out at say 195 for your 5x5 are you doing 195 for five sets...and the following week do 200 for 5 sets?...or is each one of your five sets going up 5lbs each?...example:

195,200,205,210,215....or
195,195,195,195,195...then next week 200 for five sets?

You can do whichever you prefer. I have even seen some do it the other way around to your first option (i.e. do 215,210,205...) on the basis that you reduce the weight as you fatigue.

Most do the latter though (stick to the same weight for 5 sets after warming up and then up the weight next week assuming you hit all 5).

ya i think your supposed to go 5X5 on what you can do 5 times, then next week add 5 lbs and do 5X5 again, then again next week, and so on. then once you cant get that 5th rep up anymore, switch to 5X3. then with the 5X3, again add 5 lbs every week. it works great.

thats how i did it and it worked great for me.

Yes.

This is the way I've done them and they work...When I first started this program I could only bench 205 for 3 (maybe 4 on a good day). With Needsize's 5x5 program, I've benched 275lbs for 5x5 before I injured my back...

I had to take time off due to my back and sucked big time as I lost quite a bit of strength coming back but I'm already at 230lbs for 5x5 and I know as long as I take it steady and do the program properly I'll be at 275 and hopefully break the 300's.

I have been on this program for a couple of weeks but, I have only been doing if for my chest. It seems too easy but, I guess the further along you get the more difficult it becomes. I am going to stick it out and see what happens. Also, do you use the 5x5 for other body parts as well???? If so, can someone give me an example of the exercises that they do..any input would be greatly appreciated.

Use 5x5 for your compound exercises.

You should be able to find a sample routine that Needsize posted in the original 5x5 thread.

Thanks needsize! Yeah, hopefully my squats and deads get up there real quick too.

My squats weren't much to begin with and I really have to becareful now since I've had knee surgery. But I've made great progress on all my lifts thanks to your program and advice.

BTW, how'd you do in your last show?

I was 2nd in the heavies at that show, not going back till I am 40lbs heavier on stage, I'm up 20lbs so half way there
