Any advantage to the smith machine leg press?

To me I see none and one disadvantage.... you have to start with your legs tucked in which seems like it would be easier to hurt yourself. Unlike a squat where you start off standing and lower into the weight.

You gotta move your feet forward, smith is not for women and a good way to not get injured. its good for us older guys that cant risk injury lol smith is great especially for chest but i use regular leg press these days

Yeah Im talkin bout laying on your back and leg pressing. I saw a guy at the gym doing this and he was right next to a leg press, squat machine, squat rack and no one was using any of em. And I thought , maybe he knows something I dont know?

I would assume he was trying to mimic and inverted legs press. Whicj there is a machine for but you dont see it in too many gyms. Only problem is doing it this was is SUPER dangerous. In order to get low enough tou cant have the catch pins on the rails and if that weight happens to slip of your feet, and thetes a good chance it could? Your getting hurt.

Yeah I was thinking how dangerous it is cause he was using a smith mach which is just his feet on the bar!

And in order to start the exercise he had to start with his legs tucked in to his chest..... but he was only using 6 plates so he was short changing himself on the weight as well/

Ya its crazy. Its like those girls who do those kick up things for glutes with one foot on the bar. Lol. Not safe at all man.

I LovE watching vids of hot chicks doing those things on YouTube .. I don't care if it's not safe for them,, F'ing hot !

Laying down hamstring curls my favorite
Boooooooooooooooooooobs. :yumyum:

Careful with the smith guys, as it's locked in place - it can be harsh on the joints. And yeah, that silly horseshit lying on a bench, pressing the bar with your feet is dumb and dangerous.

For some reason the Smith feels easyer on my joints esp. my shoulders ..

I find the smith helpful for shoulder press and incline press but thats about it. I really still only use it once in a blue moon though. But smith machine for legs? Forget about it. It puts a crazy amount of pressure on my hips and knees.

Feel the same way. I tried copying one of fouad's workouts & he had a smith squat in there...never again

I'll do behind-the-neck press on smith, and sometimes incline/decline press (following a mountaindog program) but that's about it.

I even shrug with DBs now that they got 130/140/150s at the gym now...feels nicer than the smith smashing my nutsack

Ya good call on the behind the neck press in the smith, WAY safer than free weight.

I go along with most all the posts on the Smith machine. WE need to remember that all the machines have a purpose and many times they are not for some, but cab be used by those same people to an advantage depending on the goal and their personal condition, This at any give interval of the program.

WE must remember that all the machines take away the need for most stabilizer muscles to get driven to work thus growth. Sometimes it is good to bench on the smith to get past a plateau because the secondary muscle are no in play with balance etc... SO we push that very HEAVY weigh to the max. One the primary muscle and the center point of that muscle becomes strong enough to push (move) that weight we go back to the free bench to tie in with strength and size all the connecting muscles.

Please don't jump on me if most of you already know what I said, some few don't. :)

I agree with the general consensus on leg pressing on a smith machine but just wanted to mention something extra...

Due to the difficulty involved in getting in the right position, your putting yourself at serious risk of excessive lumbar flexion in your back = disc bulge.
This was the same problem with the old school vertical leg press machines.

Way too easy to cripple yourself so IMO it should be avoided at all costs.
