Any advantage to the smith machine leg press?

I agree with the general consensus on leg pressing on a smith machine but just wanted to mention something extra...

Due to the difficulty involved in getting in the right position, your putting yourself at serious risk of excessive lumbar flexion in your back = disc bulge.
This was the same problem with the old school vertical leg press machines.

Way too easy to cripple yourself so IMO it should be avoided at all costs.

In MHOP I disagree with the smith machine being similar to the vertical leg press machine used in the old days. The vertical leg press allows you to roll up your lower lumbar thus putting a strain right at the L2 - L5. IN this position there is a tendency to push out the discs.

This always can happen when leaning forward and humping over when working legs. If when using the smith machine if you keep you legs a little forward and lift by pushing back on the bar this should keep your back straight and inline.

I do not argue this but feel there is a difference to what was said, by technique .

I agree that the old vertical leg press was not good at all. One of the reasons we don't see it around.

I actually miss the old suicide leg press machines. NOTHING motivates you more than the thought of being crushed by a thousand pounds of iron. :(
