Are these results low? Please help because my doctor wont...

I'm in my late 20's, have no libido, no motivation, no sex drive & I'm miserable. My doctor keeps telling I'm depressed (Which I'm not!) & for me to go on anti-depressants but I keep telling him I think my testoserone is low.

Here are my results of a test I had to pay for out of pocket since he refused to test me. Even after these results, he says they are fine for someone my age yet I looked at a chart & has my results in the 85-100 year old man level!

I'm in my mid 40's and my Test level was just below 300 and I had the exact same symptoms. My Dr didn't say I was depressed, however he wouldn't prescribe TRT either

My doctor kept asking what I ate before testing as if I was lying to him... Now he wants me to retest again in 3 months (Again at my cost since Kaiser wont' cover it)

He stated I may have eaten foods that could have thrown off the test even though I was very sure to not eat anything 12 hours before as told by the testing center.

To my knowledge, there is nothing you can eat before a blood test that is going to make your total test report as 1/2 of what it should be. If he is dead set on not believing you, and you don't live in the middle of nowhere, it will probably be easier to just go to a different doc. If Kaiser is your insurance company, go on their website and find a list of in network providers near you.

If I was a Dr. (I'm not), I would not necessarily start you on TRT just from a total/free test panel. I would want to make sure there was nothing else going on. However, I don't have to "sell" a bunch of insurance companies on the reasons I would want to order a whole slew of tests, so I can see why some of them do that. I'm sure it is a PITA for them to have non-physicians telling them how to treat their patients.

BTW, did you ask him how going on an anti-depressant is going to help with your libido? There is only 1 currently marketed med out there that has statistically 0% sexual side effects, and AFAIK no insurance companies cover it willingly because it is so expensive. I can tell you in my own experience that SSRIs like Prozac, Lexapro, etc. definitely DO affect your libido in a negative way. On the upside, since my Dr. did start me on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), I quit taking Lexapro cold turkey, with NO negative withdrawals. I sleep great, I feel energized, and my libido is MUCH improved. Like, to the point my wife is starting to question if she is going to be able to keep up with me :D

how long where you on SSRI's? and did you start feeling good right away after you stopped them after starting testosterone replacement therapy (TRT)? ive been on SSRI's for 16 years and TRT for 5,and im just wondering what would happen if i just quit my meds?

yeah, I been going through the same thing with my Dr. I have test levels at 280ng/dl, with some of the same symptoms as you. He will give me all kinds of medicine for all these symptoms but not test. Got to love it.

Your testosterone numbers are on the low side but you need to find out why. TRT should always be a last resort. How is your thyroid?

Tests...

This is what they have already tested me for:

Thyroid
occult

STD
lipid
Vitamin levels of B& D
Urinalysis with reflex microscopy
Amylase plasma
liver
iron
Occult
cbc

ALL came back fine

I was on for about 2 years. I started testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) 7 weeks ago. The SSRIs had helped some with my depression, but not my motivation/activity, and it KILLED my libido. I started feeling good the first week of my testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). My non scientific test was to see which one was doing what, so I quit taking the SSRI and closely monitored my sleep, mood, diet, etc. Turns out it looks like I was misdiagnosed initially.

***PAY ATTENTION HERE***

I DO NOT suggest anyone quit an SSRI cold turkey, especially without a doctor's close supervision. If they ARE doing something for you, you could become suicidal (or homicidal) very quickly.

We won't know what "came back fine" means. What were your thyroid results and ranges?

i know man its horrible, you would think the testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) would help it more

i agree, ive quit taking my valium cold turkey before....not fun,at all, wont make that mistake again

Your testosterone level is quiet normal. Don't go for supplements, try to improve yourtestosterone level organically.
Do regular work outs, Have a good diet, Sleep Beauty, Keep Body Active and stay away from pressure.
