bench grip

laxmel2

I'm kind of a big deal...
when i bench i hold the bar with my thumbs in (tumbs next to index finger, hand makes a C shape when holding bar). i was told that that this way sucks so now im second guessing, i am more comfortable the way i have been doing it. but if holding the bar normal will help, ill make the change. any input?

That is called a suicide grip, because obviously the thumb is not there to 'lock' the bar in place. I actually prefer this grip, I switch back and forth every once in awhile but this is actually a more natural way to PRESS against an object.

However, it is called a suicide grip for a reason, it can be dangerous on an unlucky day.

suicide fells more natural, my old coaches in high school did it like that when i started lifting so ive used it ever since, when i go normal it feels like im gona drop the bar on my chest. anything i can do to help prevent the bar from falling on my face.

mudge, is that you on the avatar??

Yes. I've met him . Mudge is huge.

I call it a false grip. I benched that way for about 12 years. I don't anymore. Never had anything bad happen but I don't trust it at the weights i'm lifting now.

Mudge has been on Cell Tech for a while.

Wait until you see what he looks like when he adds in the Hydroycut.
