calf and shin pain

ever since i started this cycle i have been feeling alot of pain in my calves and shins. its more of a burning sensation actually. like they are going to burst. what the fuck is this? it gets bad if i have to walk more than a few blocks. i thought id get used to it or it would go away but its been four weeks now and its the same. does anyone know what this is from? im using sustanon at 500 mgs split into 4 doses weekly. im on nolvadex and liquidex too, but this sensation was there before i started on those. i figured it may be estrogen related but it has remained exactly the same since i started on anti e´s. i remember someone telling me way back how decca was great to stack with whatever you were using because it inhibited lactic acid buildup. well, i have never once seen this in any literature but the last time i did a cycle i did sustanon and decca and didnt experience this shit. in fact i felt great never got tired never got sore. so maybe there is something to this theory. is it lactic acid buildup? it feels alot like it. but i have not been working legs too hard since i screwed up a nerve in my lower back. if anyone has any theories or an explanation i would appreciate it. i was planning on sprinting three times pr week during my cycle but have only gone twice due to the fuckin pain. am i just being a pussy or does anyone else get this? oh well, thats the situation. if its what everyone refers to as a pump then id hate to see how id feel on dianabol.

Bro you have compartment syndrome, i have the same problem. The pain in my shins are so bad it feels like they are about to burst. I have this when off cycle but for some reason I get it worst when on. I believe it may be worst because of the water you hold while on. Really is not too much you can do about it

thats what i was thinking bigdaddy. water retention. e-swift. i run alot, but havent felt up to it since i started this cycle. the pain in my calves gets bad when im going uphill. when on a flat surface its my shins. i guess im screwed then if theres nothing i can do about it. i will just have to suck it up. one question though... decca makes you hold a shit load of water too, but i felt the oppsite effect during my last cycle. my legs would not get tired, no matter how much running i did, even uphill. i never felt tight like this. if it didnt take so long to kick in i would probably add decca to this cycle. bump for more replies, thanks for the comments bros.

I've had that too, on sustanon, playing hockey, i could hardly skate for 10 seconds, my calves would KILL ME, like they were totally pumped/tired it was a weird feeling, thankfully i pummeled some guy on the ice and got suspended for the rest of the season. was on dbol as well.

i get fuckin pissed off everytime i see a hill these days, especially if i have to get to the top of it.

Yeah bro, it comes and goes sometimes. There have been times that I have ran for a few months straight with no problem, then there are those times I run 2 times a week and I cannot stand the pain after about a mile. My shins are almost shiny since they are so tight. Rest bro, that is the only advice I can give you, try cycling it tends not to kill my shins the same way

Here you go bro ACS is quite common during a cycle.

Anterior Compartment Syndrome
(Anterior shin splints)

What is a compartment syndrome?

Compartment syndromes arise when a muscle becomes too big for the sheath that surrounds it causing pain. The big muscle on the outside of the shin is called the tibialis anterior and is surrounded by a sheath. This is called the anterior compartment of the lower leg. Compartment syndromes can be acute or chronic.

Acute anterior compartment syndrome can occur as a result of:

An impact which causes bleeding within the compartment and therefore swelling.
A muscle tear which also causes bleeding.
Over use injury which also causes swelling.
Symptoms include:

A sharp pain in the muscle on the outside of the lower leg, usually the result of a direct blow.
Weakness when trying to pull the foot upwards against resistance.
Swelling and tenderness over the tibialis anterior muscle.
Pain when the foot and toes are bent downwards.
What can the athlete do?

Rest, but try to exercise your upper body or cycle if it is not painful.
Apply ice and compression for 20 minutes at a time.
See a sports injury professional who can advise on rehabilitation.

The anterior compartment is on the outside front of the shin, shown bottom left above.

What can a sports injury specialist or doctor do?

Prescribe anti-inflammatory medication e.g. ibuprofen.
Correct any biomechanical disfunction with orthotic devices.
Operate. They could make a small cut or two in the muscle sheath to allow the muscle to expand out.
Chronic anterior compartment syndrome can occur as a result of:

Over use and over developing the muscle through training.
At rest the blood vessels are not at capacity. During exercise these blood vessels fill up much more and expand putting pressure on the sheath.
The sheath becomes inelastic and unable to expand.
Symptoms include:

Pain which increases during exercise which eventually makes running impossible.
Pain goes after a short rest but comes back again during exercise.
Difficulty in lifting the toes and foot up.
Pain when pulling the toes and foot downwards.
What can the athlete do?

Rest until there is no pain.
Apply sports massage techniques to increase the elasticity of the muscle sheath.
Apply heat and use a heat retainer.
See a sports injury specialist.
What can a sports injury specialist or doctor do?

Prescribe diuretics and anti-inflammatory medication.
Analyse your training methods, running gait and types of shoe to determine any contributory factors.
Use sports massage techniques to stretch the muscle sheath.
Operate. They could make a small cut or two in the muscle sheath to allow the muscle to expand out.

this has only happend to me during a cycle... are there specific AAS's that cause this? If so which ones? I've only experienced it with tren so far...

it's not just attributed to Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) and being on cycle, but it certainly makes a huge difference. The water retention is the culprit.
I talked to my doctor about it and he told me to go to the health food store and buy and over the counter diuretic and take taurine.

within a few days I was able to walk on full incline on the treadmill.
Since then, I always use taurine and an over the counter diuretic while on cycle and I haven't had any problems since.

i think a have the same thing now.....only the front of my shins hurt like a MOFO when i apply light pressure to the front/side og the bone ! MAD PAIN !!!

currently on cycle !! ...does anybody feel pain in the front/side og the shin bone when they apply pressure too ?

allso when walking fast for 10 min or so, then i get MAD burn in the Tibialis Anterior ( http://www.exrx.net/Muscles/TibialisAnterior.html )

This happened to me during my first cycle...I would get lower back pain and shin pain really bad...the muscles would tighten up really bad like I had just worked the crap out of them....I atributed it to the fact that I didn't do any cardio for like 2 and a half months...and had gained about 30 lbs from the cycle.....I had to move because of my job...and I had to walk around the dallad intl airport...that sucked...it was like over a mile...walking at a fast pace to not miss my next plane...I thought I was going to die....and then to top it off..where I'm living now ...there is a ton of big hills at like a 30 deg. incline...that I have to climb everyday to work....but this was with Test E...I'm currently on Prop....and it's not as bad this time as it was last....try using the eliptical machine....I did that for a long time...and it helped a lot...I was at least able to do some cardio....hope this helps...out...

I can think of 2 reasons for this. The first is your legs getting pumped much more then usuall, I have this with my forearms when Im on. I use straps sometimes and even with them I have the most intense burn. The second is your extra weight youv prob put on. Your calfs have a knew weight to support.

i got exact same thing when on a cycle of Sustanon (sust) ,decca and dbol. been off for 3wks and pain has tottally cleared up. i couldn't even walk a quarter of a mile before i was in agony before!!!

Haha, i can see you guys know what im talking about !
people who havent tried it, cant imagine the insane burn ! LOL
i just stopped the dbol i was on, that seems to help a little too... :D

Thx for the info bro's :)

I know this thread is about 100 years old, but rather than create a new one...
Do you, or anyone else out there, remember/know what dosage of taurine & diuretic you were taking? I am about to start up test cyp/dbol/decca cycle soon and want to try this out. Shin cramping to the point of extreme pain is a major issue with Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS) for me.
