Can You Build A Wide Back Without Lat Pulldowns???

Guys, I'm going to buy a power rack next week and would like to get some opinions. The power rack with the lat attachment I REALLY want costs way TOO much. So, I'm going to keep it basic and go with this one. http://www.newyorkbarbells.tv/92552.html These are the exercises I can do without cables since I workout at home. Chins, Rack Chins(Doggcrapp style), One Arm Rows, T-Bar Rows(with an Olympic bar in a corner with a close grip handle), Barbell Rows, Deadlifts, and Pullovers(Nautilus Machine). Did I miss anymore?? Let me know what you think about the rack??

Well, you might be meaning this by "chins," but wide/medium grip pullups work very well - they are basically the same movement as pulldowns, but they work much better, IMO.

That is a great rack, I have the same rack with all the attachments, lat pulldown, pec dec, cable cross. You can get all those as add ons later, the rack alone is great base for a safe workout.

Lat pulldowns got me to the strength level that i could start training with pullups. So it depends on the persons abilities

Ditto. It took me forever to get to where I could do even one pullup or bodyweight dip. You just gotta build up and do what you can do.

I can do 3 straight from a dead hang right now, but that's without seriously working out in over 3 years. Maybe, I'll shoot for 20 reps total in how every many sets it takes me. Then, move on to the other exercises.

In arnold's encyclopaedia...he recommends doing 50 pullups on the days that you do them. If you can't do them in 4-5 sets...then he says to keep coming back to do them until you get to 50 for the day. But then that's just his .02

Texas Ranger, Rack Chins front and back with weight added, IMO are the best Back Width exercise there is...

bent barbell rows are the #1 exercise for your back...start there

i would say it is a very close call between weighted chins (pullups) and bent barbell rows. thats all i do actually. my back has been growing and growing since i incorporated them into my workout.
