I guess today is my day to post threads...LOL!

My knees do not allow for much running, especially the heavier i get....so I have been swimming laps in my pool...but how do I know when I have done enough...swimming works every freakin body part as opposed to running...my rule of thumb so far is keep going until my gf has to haul me out before I drown..it isn't that bad, but I do need a catalyst to work from...any swimmers out there with suggestions???

I used to do laps. One lap would be equal to once up & down the length of the pool. I would take the maximum amount of laps I knew I could do w/o rest. Say that was 5 for shits & giggles. I would then make the workout into "sets"(as I would call it), just as if I were lifting. 1st set--one lap. 2nd set--3 laps. 3rd & 4th sets would be worksets with my maximum amount of laps. Then maybe a 5-10 minute session of treading water as a cooldown. That sound retared or what?! Lol...worked for me though.

Doesn't sound retarded at all...that is not to far off from what I have been doing. One lap is down and back..I sprint (read swim as fast as possible) one lap stop for 30 seconds, repeat 10 times...by the end I am out of breath and need to hang on to the side to keep from drowning...then to cool down I swim 2 slow laps...my chest and shoulders are always pumped like a champ...I get out of the pool hoping to catch my gf's eye...look at me is what I am saying on the inside...HA!
