chalk....

my gym is the same way, its a pice of shit. Its a bunch of old people and guys who do the exact same thing every single day. The music played is 80s shit and ace of base. We are also not allowed to use chalk. I am leaving there very shortly.

the owner of my gym was a pro bodybuilder... he finished in like the top 10 in the nation i think... or somethin close to that. and he still doesnt let me use chalk, and sadly... this is the best gym in my area... when i move back to chicago however, there are many more options available :)

I am not allowed to use chalk either, but i talked to a couple of the trainers and said go ahead. Since i am the only one using it no one has a problem, i work out at a NYSC, so i don't see anyone else busting out the chalk anythime soon. IF you are polite, and the owners wife is not the guy doing the cleaning, you can usually get what you want, within reason.

sorry i didnt know i wasnt supposed to use chalk:doh:

My old gym had a no chalk rule, the PLs used it anyway. If you dont leave a mess its not that big of a deal.

I love chalk but I insist on training without it.

im just curious, but why do u insist on training without it? :)

they have something called liquid chalk... quirt it on your hands and you get the same/if not better grip as chalk... all the powerlifters in my gym use it !

I either can do the lift by myself, or I cannot. I would rather be forced to strengthen my grip than to use assistance.

In the real world you dont wear chalk on your hands, so I guess you could say I'm an "all natural lifter" :laugh4:

I do a couple sets of forearm work during the week. All chalk does is make the grip easier for me, I can't lift any more with it that I know of, I dont lose my grip until I start sweating and by then I've moved onto my puny weights (rows).

i use chalk but only use straps on bent over rows. the only reason i use them then is my forearms cramp so bad i cant concentrate on the rows. tough to hold 455 in that awkward position too. i am swiching over to the hook grip on deads but it will take a couple of months to completely make the change. this will also put me in a more favorable position on deads. easier to sit back and both arms pronated. less risk of a bicept tear.

gillingham uses the hook grip doesnt he ?

yup. the guy that got me started is ox mason. a good 242er. he trains with travis mash who is one of the top 2 or 3 220s in the world. i train with those guys occassionally as well. anyway travis, ox, brad and steve goggins pull hook grip. travis got steve and ox doin it . he comes from an olympic lifting back ground.

any way this week will be week two of trying it. they told me to take a few months to fully make the shift. this week i'll go 455 or so before swithching back to reverse grip. hopefully by the end of the summer ill b fully converted. hell i know i will. if those silly plympic lifters can do it i know i can. lololololol

i tried doing the reverse grip today on some static holds, i got it to work... but it smashes the f*ck outta my thumbs..lololol it feels like allll the pressure is taken from my forearms, to my little thumbs lol... i dont know if that is right or not, but im still gonna give it a shot this coming weekend when i DL again :)

the last time i saw steve he was still conventional . a funny story about him , he was at the aapf worlds last year or the year before i cant remember which and my training partner was competing in the 220 class , he is a legitimate drug free competitor , which is the only kind of lifter who should compete in drug free events. anyway my buddy was pulling for a new world record at 220 in aapf , 677.5 after i pulled his straps up and shoved a quart of ammonia up his nose i dropped just off the edge of the platform and kneeled down to watch . my buddy came up fast but started stalling just above the knees , i went nuts and started slamming my fist on the edge of the platform and started screamin DONT YOU QUIT ON ME over and over . my buddy didnt quit and made the lift , while i was helping him with his straps steve came over and said there were a about a hundred people hollering pull pull and you couldnt hardly hear them over DONT YOU QUIT ON ME , he said he was gonna hire me out :D

you know this guy is 40 years old and squattin 1100 and pullin high 8s. amazing. he pulled 881 at 242 at the arnold. freak. super nice guy too. he came to one our meets just to spot.

i agree if you using hormones dont lift in the drug free orgs. there are plenty of nontested feds to lift in. and if you drug free dont complain if you lift at a nontested meet.
