Brat

PiNCHe GRiNGa!
Hey y'all...:wavey:

I have a retake of a physical agility test in three weeks. I failed Friday because I couldn't get my 5'4" ass over the 6' wall...Have any of y'all had to do this? Any advice on what I can work on at the gym to get myself up and over the wall?

Getting yourself over the wall has to be done in one explosive movement. The best thing you could do is practice on the wall itself, but I doubt that's an option.

Nope...sadly, I can't do that...

If you can find a vid or something of several people climbing a similar wall and watch how they do it that might be of some use.

They showed it on the reality show "The Academy"...I tried what they did, but with my hurt arm, it wasn't working with me...and my legs wouldn't kick over...

hey brat. long time.

you've got just 2-3 weeks to prep? don't waste your time trying to increase you vertical jumping. at most you'll gain a half inch. not worth it.

focus on - obviously - upper body. more specifically, think about those muscles that strained the most while doing this evolution. typically, you'll need strong hands, forearms, delts and lats.

also, watch - or envision - a baby climbing its way out of its crib. it clings on with its hands - monkey grip - then like a gymnast flings its leg way up onto the railing, and uses its inner thigh muscle to lift the other leg and butt off the mattress. so work out your inner thighs (and butt) - - i'll help :doggy:

how hurt is your arm, can you not hoist yourself to a straight armed position with feet hanging?

My pulling abilities are limited right now because of the injury.

Is there a rope Brat or is the one where you run to the wall and have to run up to and get over it the best way you can? If it's one without a rope then at your height you might need to make a little run up the wall menuver. have youy seen how the basball players (outfielders) run up the wall to catch a ball about to go into the stands? You have to run at it at an angle to get the feet to grip......all you need to do is get your hands up to the top of the wall so it's not like you're running up the wall to the top. Once you've got a grip on the top you keep your feet moving and use momentum to get you're leg over the top.....wiht the help of pulling with your arms of course.

No rope, sadly...and my shoes were crap...the trainers even had me try it without my shoes on but that just made it worse!!

I think once my shoulder/arm heals and I can pull myself up a little more, it should be easier...or I hope, at least! :sadwavey:

Get a better pair of sneaks, heal and tackle that wall Brat! The trainers are thinking along the same lines I am in the fact you need to get a little foot plant action on the wall to get your momentum up. The trick is to get your body high enough up the wall that you can get one leg up to the top........once you've got a leg up the rest will be a sinch.

Good luck B...........and let us know when you beat that wall.

I will! My workouts for the next three weeks will focus a lot on plyos and back/triceps stuff...

Chin-ups if you get get them into the routine might help a little as well............in case you can't get a leg swing you can at least pull your frame up as high as possible and swing the lower portion up from there.

practice on a brick wall. run up to it and try to throw yourself up as high as possible. get your ankles and shit ready. its in the legs.

tri strength will help alot also.... when thinking about it wall climbing/jumping involves alot of muscles.

Hey Bratty!

I think it's all mental with you. I've seen what you're pulling and lifting in your journal. I definately think you have the strength and muscle to do it already.

Don't say to yourself I think I can........say I CAN AND I WILL. I'm 100% confident you can do this already! JUST GO DO IT NOW BABY!!!! :rockband:

at about 2:30 you'll see this guy run up some walls. watch how he keeps his feet moving when he kinda gets stuck. thats what you have to do.

get that initial jump and leg drive into and up the wall, get the hands on the top, then keep driving you legs up.

If you can't practice on a wall i would do some intense sets of mountain climbers, just to get those legs used to driving.
