Crossfit...anybody implement these workouts with primarily bodybuilding routine

carverelli

I am banned!
Wife and took little vacation road trip to Phoenix to visit family and my cousin brought me to a crossfit gym to workout. I've heard of crossfit but didn't really know anything about it.

Seems like some of the principles might come in handy for getting ready for a comp. High intensity, short rest periods, almost like HIIT. Not more than 2x/wk but defiantly a fat burner

Any thoughts?

I m down...sort of Cav.

I do my primary compound movement 1 st
ie
Warm up do 5 working set s incorporating s heavy as possible down to a set or two of 6 , 8 or 10 on
Incline bench -push
Leg press/squat-leg
Heavy rows/DL pull

I do a big and little body part in 60-75 ms. After the above I do supersets w say chest and bi s, back nd tris etc. And some day s do push pull s sets..whatever keep s me gasping as my heart lung s and cock are my number 1 concern s with the rest a distant 2nd.

I try to train w younger folks too when I can as they re more able to keep up the pace..no talking, b s f n iphone shit or gawking except when walking in, out or loitering by or on aerobic machines.

I ll never be big or strong again so...lean and hard s the goal FOR ME. Chick s dig it and assists my other job-gay porn star.

Not with people who actually know how to use freeweights.
No offense to you cousin.

He's now 41,but in his early 20's he started as safety for a major pac-10 university footbaLl team so I think he's been Round free weights . Now.hss about 225 at 5-11 I'd guess about 12-15% bf in pretty decent shape. He has the genetics to be pretty big but I think he thinks he thinks he's big enough just wants to be more fit

There is something to be said about having functional strength

F--- no...
Definitely functional strength ..and add a decade, I m 52 and my chasis' scream s when I go over say 225 x 12-15 on bench.....315x 10-12 on squats 365x 10-12 on dl...

Old and feeble now...lol

I sleep 4 hours at time....g night lads.

Little T s here so...he s 10 and will be up at 0645 raring to go go go...

functional strength such as pullups, tricep dips, squats, pushups etc aren't solely crossfit exercises. Those belong to exercise in general.

It's when crossfit takes something like deadlifts and makes you rep out several sets at heavy weight with no rest and poor form that lets you down. Then there's kipping pullups and muscle ups, and various other horrible ideas that can be easily youtubed under "crossfit fail".

Overall, there are health professionals that think crossfit is better than nothing.
There are are some that believe nothing is better as at least you aren't doing something guaranteed to injure you (remember crossfit instructors don't need training the same way PTs do)
And then there's virtually no one that thinks crossfit is better for you than a good session of resistance based weights training.

If you're after HIIT: sprints, boxing, interval training are good starting points and less likely to injure you.

As a competing BBer, I'd NEVER EVER go near crossfit as I need my body intact to compete and posing with a broken back is hard!

My daughter is just now seriously getting into lifting. My girlfriend has been seriously into crossfit. My daughter has been with her a couple of times and asked me what I thought about it. My response was anytime the goal is to compete against a clock and get as many reps as possible on heavy compound movements you're just asking for trouble. Especially with newer people who may not know proper form, technique or have the years of experienced lifting that alot of vets do. That said, my girlfriend doesn't lift heavy anymore and enjoys more of the cardio and motivation aspects from the atmosphere

Coincidentally.... I've just returned from a physio appt.... he said that over 30% of his clients are crossfitters lol

FWIW: If it's a choice between lying on the sofa, or crossfit - I'd always choose the exercise option.

But the minute you introduce a stopwatch to powerlifting and tell someone to do as many lifts as they can in a minute - is the moment shit starts to go wrong.

Exactly.

Goals determine approach. As a power-lifter w o s like squats would take 2 hour s factoring in warm up s and getting to where we d do 5 s or triples--ie
135
225
315- belt
365
405 knee warps
455
495 plus a suit

Work out. U get in hurry u get hurt.

I would agree with most posts about the safety issue of doing as many reps as possible with any kind of time restraint. That can get dangerous quick like. I was talking more about the idea of keeping hr high while moving to different movements or exercises as a way(version )
of HIIT I would definitely agree that perfect (at least decent) form is paramount to avoid injury.
Crossfit comps just look silly imo, but the Thierry of keeping intensity high especially on a cut moving from one exercise to another type of workout once a week has some merit

My powerlifting gym is connected to a crossfit gym id never touch crossfit but they are amazing athletes there routines build amazing physiques. The shit they do is hard fucken work and for that simple fact they get my respect

I think it's gay, and once these hipster wannabes move onto the next fad, it'll die. Apparently, boxing in a gym is the next big thing, so I feel bad for you guys that have boxed professionally/amateur to see them destroy your sport like they did mine. I used to LOVE Olympic lifts for powerlifting, but seeing tards do it as fast as possible, just ruins it for me.

It's like watching old people fuck. I'll pass. :wiggle:

I've watched some pretty sick looking bodybuilders transition to crossfit. I am not exaggerating when I tell you every one of them lost about 40lbs of muscle in the first year. Crossfit is good for ONE thing....burning calories. But most people who do it, you'd never even know because they look like shit. Even "proper" crossfit form is garbage. Kipping is never good for you. If you hate your joints and want to burn away all your muscle and turn into a bag of bones who can do 100 kipping pull-ups then that's your choice. But there are no gains to be had, no visual or aesthetic benefits. It's overtraining to the point of frying your CNS, terrible joint tearing form, and cheat reps. No thanks.

Gotta admit though crossfit chicks are the hottest in the world

That's like saying girls who go to 24 hour fitness are hotter than girls that go to Gold's Gym.....................makes no sense lol

It's like you're reading my mind..........
And the new 24 hour fitness gym they opened by my house does have a few punching bags and in the evenings there's a shit ton of people trying to use them. Apparently everyone thinks they're a boxer now lol nvm the fact that they look like crap and like they don't know what they're doing when their hitting the bags, at least they are loud when they do so by making sound effects with their mouth(yes they literally do this). I try hard not to crack up when one of these people hands their friend their phone to record them while they're hitting the bags to post on snapchat/facebook/instagram.
