Deadlifting and grip problem: straps?

Recently when I deadlift bigger weights, my grip gets exhausted before my back and legs. I mean that I can't hold the bar during the last reps of the last set.
Should I start using straps? or is it better to force my forearms and wait untill I can hold that weight?
I'm using the one hand up, one hand down grip.
I'm 5'8 163 lbs and deadlift 200 lbs 4 sets 10 reps

I like the hooked gloves when I am training very heavy, the secret is not to use them until you absolutely need them. I usually use them when my grip is exhausted but I could still lift more.

Use chalk if your gym will allow it.

chalk is not allowed in my gym..

I didn't mention that I use lifting gloves... May the gloves make the grip thicker and make things worse?

How do you have youre hands while you lift? try having one palm towards you and one away from you.

What pussy gym dont allow chalk? Change gym.

i've never heard of a gym that doesnt allow chalk, thats pretty ridiculous but i guess you gotta work with what you got. The fact that your having grip problems with pretty light weight isnt that good to begin with. Try to incorporate some grip stregthening excercises into your day to help you out and also try taking off the gloves and doin it raw and see if that helps.

My gmy doesn't 'allow' chalk, but I use it anyways and nobody ever bitches at me.

Straps can be detrimental to your lifting. Read about some old school serious BBer's like Franco Columbo they never use straps. At only 200 lbs you really shouldn't need chalk either. I pull 405x5 and dont use chalk. I was doing triples with 495 before some bad shit happened and didn't even use chalk. The wrist strength you will build w/o straps will also help make you stronger in other lifts.

i would work on your grip strength merely because 200 lbs is not consiedered heavy..( i am not flaming you btw) jsut trying to point out that one should be able to grip a lot more than that even with a light amount to no chalk at all..

second as long as you are not competing in any type of strongman or Pl events go ahead and use straps on your heaviest sets

Yeah I know it's not much weight, but I'm newbie. Just 7 months lifting and I weight 163 lbs (7 months ago I was 135 lbs).

I wanted to hear some advice, because my problem is that my grip remains very weak for next excercices.

As I said at the beggining, my problem is during the last reps of last set.

I'll just keep lifting without straps and wait for my grip to get stronger.

Thanks for advices.

i practice holding the last rep of each set for a good 5-10 secs before putting it down. that has helped me a LOT. and i know that some might flame me, but i've used the "liquid chalk" before and liked it. nowhere near as good as the block chalk, but it'll do if you can't use the real thing... (trust me i understand; i work in a YMCA and they have a SHITFIT if anyone gets chalk dust anywhere lol)
good luck and congrats for making such great improvements!

although my dead sucks i dont really have a grip problem
i do use straps on assistance work merely because i do not need to rip my hands up any further if im doing back id rather concentrate on hitting my back and not worrying if i can hold my grip for 10-15 reps

@pullinbig: Yeah I was thinking that gloves may turn things worse. I'll just lose them.
@jes131: I'll do some grip excercises. Never done farmers walks but I'll try them.
@Minx: Thanks for advice! Do you deadlift at the beggining or at the end of your workout?

ALWAYS the beginning..form is very important and if i'm tired my form sucks. plus i compete, so i want my deads to be strong.

I use straps for all my major lifts. I use straps even when I do forearms and some curls and it has never impaired my forearms development.

i would lose the gloves and get the chalk. see how it goes, if you still have trouble holding on during your heaviest sets i would use straps for those sets if nec.. your grip will improve over time.
