Delt injection - How deep?

Boss Oyama

Big Puncher ;D
I've been reading from a lt of gu on here that injecting into the delts is pretty sweet.

I'm about 200lbs so I dont have massive delts or anything. How deep should I go?

Also, what would be a good gauge?

A longer needle is fine, but just pay attention to how far you are going with it. Using a larger needle simply because you can opens the door to injuries. The delt has a higher potential then quads for striking ligament or bone. 1" should still be fine, I just don't support the "you have to use a longer needle no matter what" theory.

I realize this article relates to adolescents, but it makes my point.

What you want to remain more mindful of for different site injections is how many cc's you are administering. The delts probably won't take 5cc's like a glute might.

Yeah, same way I look at it. I feel as if 1" in the shoulders is just asking for an injury.

doesnt make sense to me............99% of the people here will tell you 1 inch will do just about everywhere.............even glutes.

the following information is from immunize.org this is basically instructions for docs and nurses on how they should administer IM vaccines. As i said 5/8 will work but unless your under 130 LBS your not gonna hit nothing with a 1 inch

Administer these vaccines via IM route:
Tetanus, diphtheria (Td), or with pertussis (Tdap); hepatitis A; hepatitis B; human papillomavirus (HPV); trivalent inactivated influenza (TIV); and meningococcal conjugate (MCV). Administer
polio (IPV) and pneumococcal polysaccharide
vaccine (PPSV) either IM or SC.
Injection site:
Give in the central and thickest portion of the
deltoid—above the level of the armpit and below
the acromion (see the diagram).

Needle size:
22–25 gauge, 1–1½" needle (see note at right)
Needle insertion:
• Use a needle long enough to reach deep into
the muscle.
• Insert the needle at a 90° angle to the skin
with a quick thrust.
• Separate two injections given in the same
deltoid muscle by a minimum of 1".

Note: A ⅝" needle is sufficient in adults weighing <130 lbs (<60 kg); a 1" needle is sufficient in adults weighing 130–152 lbs (60–70 kg); a 1–1½" needle is recommended in women weighing 152–200 lbs (70–90 kg) and men weighing 152–260 lbs (70–118 kg); a 1½" needle is recommended in women weighing >200 lbs (>90 kg) or men weighing >260 lbs (>118 kg). A ⅝" (16mm) needle may be used only if the skin is stretched tight, the subcutaneous tissue is not bunched, and injection is made at a 90-degree angle.

1" should suffice. If you dont go deep enough you'll just waist part of your gear. It does depend on your mass too. trust me if you go too deep you'll know it because if you hit anything else besides muscle like a tendon or nerve cluster you won't again. It'll hurt like a mother and cause your muscle to constrict involuntarily. So use 1" and no smaller. you'll be fine.

You won't waste any gear if you don't go deep enough. It will just take longer to absorb.

Thanks for the article Det-Oak.

no problem bro-i agree with you though- 5/8 will work especially if your lean. its just that I buy 1 inch so i can use them wherever.

1 inch seems kinda deep. I'm not body builder big so I'm definitely not as big as most of you guys.
