IRON ADDICT
Today was chest day and went in feeling good and blasted the chest and went heavy. However, after each set i felt very spent ( more than usual) and couldn't catch my breath and my heart felt like it was fixing to pop out my chest. Needless to say, i had to rest between each set longer than usual. Do you think it's the lack of cardio training ( I don't) or is it my heart. I have mytro valve prolapse (spelling??)/ heart murmer. I'm off cylcle as of now. Thanks for any input.

Sometimes I get a very hard pounding heart but I see no harm in visiting the doctor just to get everything checked out.

hah that's funny you say this. the same exact thing happened to me today during legs. i even took a 5 minute break after my second warmup set and i still could literally feel my heart pounding and could not catch my breath. i wasn't even going heavy, just warming up

Well, mitral valve prolapse (one way valve turned inside out) results in some blood thats supposed to be going to your body through the aorta is going backwards in your heart (from the ventricle to the atrium). If your body is in a state of metabolic need, your heart rate and force of contraction will increase to deliver those nutrients. Since all of your blood is not going where its supposed to, your brain will realize that the tissues are not getting enough nutrients, and it will increase the force of contraction even more. The only problem with this is that it's proportional, so at one point a certain amount of blood is traveling backwards, when the force of contraction is increased, even more is going to be going backwards, in addition to the increase in forward moving blood.

End result? Your heart's force of contraction will increase exponentially instead on linearly = feeling like it's going to pop out. I'm guesssing this has health consequences.

I had a similar situation a couple of months ago, turns out I had a chest infection, my heart was working overtime because it was not getting enough oxygen, get it checked out tohugh as it could be any number of things, from something as simple as a chest infetion which needs anti-biotics to clear it up , or it could be worse and be a serious heart problem. You cant take risks with your heart, once it quits beating that's it.
