doctors are fucks...

he didn't not want to do it because of liability... his answer was pretty much, why do you think they don't let athletes use them? and i said what about Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), they use them for that... he said, no, why don't they let athletes use them? smart guy huh

The key to getting into the door of the endocrinologist is bloodtesting showing that your natural testosterone levels are below normal. Then you ahve to hope and pray the doc prescribes an injectable rather than the Test Gels and patches. Third, you have to hope he prescribes more than 200mg EOW. Remember, the endocrinologist is only interested in getting your reading back into the norm, not at the top.

well they should upfront tell you that they are afraid of a lawsuit and that we would be better off finding a different doctor. I understand the need to protect your profession and all but there still exsists a problem with the quality of doctor pumped out by todays univesitys.

SC54,
Would you care to defend your blanket condemnation with something other than a few bad experiences? I've had bad experiences with everyone from teachers to salespeople to manual laborers to lawyers, and everything in between.
So you think there's a problem with the docs being "pumped out" of medical schools (I wish it were as cheap and easy as getting "pumped out"!).
What would your recommendation be to solve this problem? I'm serious, as an astute observor of the medical profession, what is the good solution?

I don't suppose the possiblity of sanctions by the state medical board, or even suspension of the medical license, has any meaning to you guys. Or being kicked off a preferred panel. Think!
Again, it is an immature attitude (that I see echoed here over and over) that we want what we want, and if we don't get it, the guy's an asshole. Perhaps some of them know more than it seems, and they're throwing you the party line BS just to get you off their backs! Usually, a hostile patient equals a hostile physician.
Docs have to draw the line somewhere (we all get hit up for narcotics, for example). Each doc's judgement is different, and it's THEIR right to exercise that judgement, not yours. Go elsewhere, and realize you don't have all the facts or details.
Sure, there are jerks in every profession (including body building, even!), but I get weary of these one-sided, and sometines ignorant condemnations of a particular profession. Some of ya'll need sensitivity training :p

well its kaiser, so maybe you would beleive he is more ignorant now that you know that...

LOL, maybe he IS ignorant if he's with that outfit.
Seriously, though, HMO docs (like Kaiser's) are strictly employees. If they go against the party line or even try to think or operate outside the box... bingo, out the door. Kaiser and company make profits based on containing care, ie, spending as little money as possible on tests, drugs, and physician's TIME.
There's a lot more at play than "whether the doc likes me" or "he's just stupid" or "he's little and I'm massive". Mostly, they're just trying to make it through the day like all of us. Expect compassion? Try dishing it out. We create our own reality based on our attitudes.

Ahh, i see you took some psych classes as well, and are familiar with theself fulfilling prophecy theory and behavior.

As far as docs go, i have had positive experiences and negative. You cant blanket them all. The onlky complaint i have that many doctor's do seem to share is an arrogant attitude when it comes to listening to the patient. Yes you are the expert, yes you know alot more, but it isnt your body and you donthave experience with it. Sometimes docs just dont listen well enough and arent open minded. Cant say i blame them though, with all the assholes who go in and out, and all the people just looking to score some percocets.

Two things:
1) I think of my doc as a mechanic for my body. When I come in and tell him something is wrong...I expect him to check it out to MY satisfaction. What's wrong with that?

2) I have to disagree with any doctor that won't perform a blood test - especially when it's an athlete making the request. What is the difference between that and performing a chem panel on a patient stating that they are going to start a work out regimine and want a complete physical?

Yeah, it really does cut both ways; I just get my little feelings hurt sometimes when people bash doctors as a group... because, hey, I'm one!
And there ARE a lot of PATIENTS who are arrogant know-it-alls who don't listen. Believe it!

Again, go back and read my posts referring to managed care. Often times, blaming the doc is only blaming the messenger.
Are you willing to pay out of pocket? If so, you may get what you want. This dependence on insurance-based medical care is one of the biggest problems we have. When your car breaks down, does your auto insurance company pay? No.
Most people want great care, any time, any where, but arent's willing to pay for it. We pay for other goods and services, don't we? Well, you may say, I PAY for the health insurance. And I say that you've been conned into a pay cut by having $$ taken out of your paycheck for shitty insurance that continues to ratchet up expenses and ratchet down services. Welcome to "mangled care!"
This idea of tying "health" insurance (actually, "sickness" insurance, which is why preventive and maintenance rarely fly) to employment is a relatively new idea. It came as a way to get around wage and price controls, and has been instrumental in the deline of medical care and the doctor-patient relationship. Start blaming the right culprits, and perhaps things will change.
