Does anyone have any good explanation as to why this is happening.

Interesting that you bring up the point that the poor in the US are obese.

ignorance and poverty go hand in hand

uneducated fuckers living on handouts really would have been culled under by famine and diseases only a century or two ago..

now they have 11 kids to increase the amount of handouts they receive.

"everybody is created equal"

by observing the natural world around us, its plain to see that equality is not a natural law.

for millions of years it has simply been survival of the fittest

this applies across all races cultures and societies world wide - it applies to the animal kingdom

our species is on the decline.

Tury - I got another thought for you here .. As to why men have lower testosterone levels now

The low fat diet ,, fat is 100% essential for testosterone production .. But for the last 60 years we have been brain washed into believing that fat is bad for us and our diet should be low in fat and those fat calories replaced with carbohydrates .. Society following this dogma, because of government and the grain industries influence , has been on a primarily low fat (high grain) diet ..

This caused low testosterone levels, as well as an obesity and diabetes epidemic

Very few Americans have a low fat diet despite all the marketing.

You must be around some weird Americans. The people I see eat lots of fat, protein and simple carbs. Lots of saturated fat and sodium too. Im watching my old man eat pork with rice and beans now. He doesn't trim the fat and he's downing the crispy skin too lol. Americans eat a shit load of fat lol.

You seem to be forgetting that the same brainwashing that occurred over fat being bad is currently happening again...except carbs are the new enemy - lets see if this new low carb trend magically cures obesity shall we :)

Why do people avoid all carbs? Like what bad can beans, oats, sweet potatoes, and brown rice do to you?

Because people are stupid enough to follow whatever happens to be trending?

Lol I got into this debate in that infamous 19 page thread where I posted a shit load of studies showing that carbs are not evil or poisonous are whatever people want to believe they are.

I've yet to see a single study or hear a single argument that comes even remotely close to convincing me that you should avoid any macro group.
The old adage of "everything in moderation" applies here.

Beer is a macro group, right? I really should have signed up for that Nutrition class in school.

I heard that carbs are a gluten and if you eat them it means you're a communist.

China has been using gear for 18 years and is about 240 lbs... I'd like to see that,, lol.
I doubt you could even bench him let alone drop kick him

I could bench press him - but he would be in my set of 4 in the reverse pyramid style. :)

Alcohol is weird man - some of the calories seem to just disappear into space.

I remember reading studies that suggested that long term alcohol abuse actually improves the liver's ability to burn off extra cals.
Then you had some theories suggesting that it may help fat loss by increasing muscle insulin sensitivity via AMPK activation.

Like I said, its weird.

That explains why Disney had to apologise for my communist rants against gluten free non believers:

More "research" needs to be conducted I guess.

Great thread, except for the deusch that chimed into the middle of it. We've softened up, plain and simple. We no longer have to hunt for what we eat, we live sedentary lifestyles (present company excluded), we don't even let young men compete on the field outside of the "everybody is a winner" format until Jr High, kids don't work the farm or land at a young age but instead are handed video games as a way to pass time, 90% of the average human food purchases are processed, even a lot of healthy choices are drastically altered, many men are more narcissistic and self serving than our grandfathers were, excuses for failure are miles long. Accountability for action, success, failure, have waned to the point that many feel they are entitled or owed something. It's time for the men who fit this profile to man up, and for all of us to continue making healthy natural food choices

Define "lots of fat" .. Break it down into grams,, most people eat carbohydrates foremost, then meat.. The only fat they are getting comes in what is found in the carbs and meat they consume.. So fat ends up being the lowest macro taken in in most people diet .. Prob like 50 % carbs, 30 % protein and 20% fat.. That's low fat..

And the meats now a days a lot of them are lean.. I go to the grocery store, look for chicken, and all I find is lean cuts of chicken breast,, Fuk that,, I'm looking for fatty dark meats with the skin on.. It's hard to find... I'm on a high fat zero carb diet,, going to the grocery store and shopping is difficult because everything is either a carb or advertised as low fat, even the meats..

So if I can't hardly go to the store and shop for a high fat diet,, then I'm guessing that fat is the lowest macro in most everyone else's diet,, thus society is on a low fat diet

And despite society being on a low fat diet,, yet everyone is fat,, it's clear that fat does not make a person fat (proven biological science),, it's impossible for fat to make a person fat because fat does not raise insulin and insulin is the only hormone in the body that can drive glucose and store fat in fat cells,, glucose comes from carbs and spikes insulin,, only carbs can make you fat,, It's the high carb diet society is on that causes fat,, not fat..

And on a side note : You mention lots of saturated fat and salt .. What's wrong with that.. Without saturated fat, you die .. Cut saturated fat out of your diet completely and yiur body will convert other nutrients to saturated fat inside the body because we need it to survive,, as for salt, we need that too.. Studies have already prooved that salt is not "unhealthy", those studies are old news, we've known salt is perfectly healthy for 30 years now

Have you read the labels on processed foods or looked up the nutritional value of a double quarter pounder with cheese?

Roush is dead on about insulin spikes being solely responsible for the conversion of glucose to fat. There are certainly other ways to spike insulin besides carbs however, and plain old sugar is the other culprit, and of course anything high on the glycemic index. Stay away from sugar and limit enriched flour of any kind, or starchy carbs, and fat melts away. I still prefer lean meats to any high fat substitute, and fat comes from nuts, avocado, etc. I also agree with Roush that America gets fatter in spite of a low fat diet; the aforementioned is the culprit

Carbs are not inherently evil, of course not.. But either is fully automatic guns, weed, and alcohol.. It all depends on how a user uses such things. Weed is not bad in and of itself,, but using weed to be stoned all day long and be a non productive member of society is bad IMO ... Carbs are not bad, but eating carbs when your insulin resistant and thus hurting your health is bad IMO ..

The thing is,, most of society is insulin resistant to some degree and is thus carb intolerant.. Especially us Anglo sax white of European descent.. Heck, Europeans did not have a potato until just 500 years ago,, While the chinese have been eating rice for thousands and thousands of year.. There's a big difference in genes here.

So if your insulin resistant, which 2 out of 3 of us are, and you eat carbs,, which carbs spike insulin.. Then your going to eventually have health problems due to the consumption of carbs.. Most of us young guys don't know we are insulin resistant to some degree,, until we are in our 50s and end up with heart disease , diabetes, hyper tension etc..

As for studies that prove that carbs cause health problems , instead of me posting all of them which do prove this.. I'll point you to search for yourself and look into the research of.

Dr. Tim Noakes
Dr. Eric Westman
Scientific researcher : Gary Taubes

And on a slightly different angle, studies showing gluten is a poison to most of us and that gluten is not just found in wheats and grains but pretty much all carbs
Dr. Peter Osborne

Again I'm not saying carbs are inherently evil,, But for those of us who have the genetic make up and are insulin resistant that carbs will cause us diseases and health problems (which is 70% of us)

And as far as FAD diets go,, The biggest fad diet ever is the one that is currently promoted by the us govt and the current food pyramid,, the low fat, high carb with plenty of grains and fruits.. Is supposedly healthy.. That's a fad diet that does nothing but make people unfit and sick.

The LOW carb diet is far from a fad,, been around for several million years

High in carbs and high in fat (including bad fats, like vegetable oils ie corn oil).. But I don't think that many people eat these things as the media tends to want us to believe,, I can go to my local mcdonalds during the week at the peak of lunch hour and I will not have to wait in line..

The USDA did a study from 2005-2010, and found an increase in eating healthy of 47% for working age adults and %57 for older adults.. Note: eating healthy according to the usda is eating low fat and high carb, ie fruits, grains, while wheat,, and vegetables

Eating that processed cheese burger is prob not healthy .. Sure.. But plenty of Americans steer clear of mcdonalds and yet have obesity and health problems,, and it's not because they are on a high fat diet

And let's not forget, there are plenty of carbs in the veggies and fruits we eat. Low carb does not mean no carb, it simply minimizes the starchy polysaccharide varieties that spike insulin

Apparently you guys missed this whole conversation from just a few days ago. KISS: it is calories. That is what it comes down to in the end. Just pretty much plain simple calories.
