Adam Archiletta trains by lifting the weight and 'dropping' it...he doesnt test like that...The NFL and college are pretty strict when it comes to that...AA uses some odd methods like chains and micro weights, but my friend in the AFL does the same with his trainer and it seems to work well for athletes...
There is usually 185 and 225 for testing in college and prob NFL too...DBs and the 'small' guys use the 185 and the linemen and bigger guys use 225. Our D3 def. end benched 225 for 38 so I am SURE D1/NFL and even Ronnie can do a shitload more...
I dont agree with it really, and I think it should be like how many reps heavy for 2-5 can you do for the linemen etc...football is all power generated so why do a strength endurance test? But it looks good...but doing 405 for 5 or whatever seems to be a better upper strength guage to me...
PLUS...anyone who played will tell you this...numbers hardly ever really translate to how good a player is on the field...Some AWESOME ballers can hardly bench more than a decent HS player, but would make u look like a fool in pads.
