Frustrated!

Hey Girls, I am torn and need some advice. I really want to gain muslce mass, however I really do not want to put on 15-20lbs...I am definitely underweight for my height, however I like being thin. Are or were any of you like me and if so how did you make the change from being skinny to muscular? Did you have to buy new clothes because of the weight gain? I can't afford to buy new pants right now, money is tight, and if I gain a lot of weight, my pants won't fit. Apart of me is terrified (I know, totally stupid) that I will gain fat and not muscle.
Do or did any of you feel/felt like this before?

Thanks so much for listening to my silly rant, just frustrated and want to make up my mind and move on.

Hi girl, I was real thin before deciding to add muscle and the key is in how heavy you lift and how big you eat. If you want to gain a big or small amount of weight it won't just happen because you train, you have to lift and eat. As you don't want that big muscle look, just keep the portions in check and train moderately, the idea is to monitor your progress. When you find that place that you want to stay, maintain at that stage and that's it.

It's not stupid to have an ideal for yourself as long as it's not a dangerous method you're using, everyone on this site is working towards what they want whether it's crazy muscle and size or fat loss. Just get all the nutrients your body needs, keep a healthy frame of mind and screw what other people think! JMHO

Hey Detour5, thanks so much for reading my thread and replying! U are SO right about screwing what others say :)
That's awesome you made the change and added muscle. What is/are your fitness goals if you don't mind me asking?
I remember a few years ago trying to gain muscle and I gained some but more fat. I know my diet was not perfect, so maybe I will check out 3J's Nutrition. I know I don't eat enough currently, and I'm tired of feeling like sh*t from not eating enough.

Best of luck to you and thank you again for sayin hey :)

Its what you eat, eat clean and you will gain lean, I hate seeing girls in the gym just go straight to the treadmill and then leave, muscle burns fat, and since woman aren't designed to gain massive muscle like men you don't have that to worry about..good luck

Hey Lauren,
Well I was super thin my whole life, I'm 5'6 and right until I was 25 I weighed about 114-116 lbs, I was a runner all through high school, and for a few year after, I always got the "O.M.G how do u stay so thin? " or "you are so tinny ! comments...lol
I had my first child at 25 an stil went back to my usuall weight, after my 2nd child at 27 I went up about 8-9 lbs few lbs and stayed at that weight..
So with this I tell u as Detour said, you are not going to gain weight or muscle just because your lifting, women don't gain muscle like men, because of ur lack of testosterone, so u can have a lifting routine & if u eat clean, u don't have to worry about gaining fat.. just monitor your self,
I think u mentioned on another thread that u lift twice a week & do cardio every day of the week.. Maybe u could do cardio 2-3 times a week and u can add 1 more day of lifting, remember you will need to increase the protein/ & cals, but just do it slowly, until you reach your ideal weight.

Don't worry about needed new clothes, although your wanna probably want to buy new clothes once you start seeing results ...lol ;)

You should definitely check out 3J nutritional network, he can set up a personalized diet plan for you. :)

Hey!

When I first added muscle I wanted to stand out for looking fit and healthy not thin and ill! But as I've gotten older my aims have changed which led me to different workouts and diets. I competed in figure and switched to fitness so my goals changed to alter my physique. I'm currently 6 months pregnant and still do gymnastics, dance and body conditioning exercises. My diet is 90% healthy but I'm focused on eating for energy and my pregnancy. The key really is the food especially for women. The mind is one of our strongest tools and how we see ourselves from day to day can effect our self esteem issues. The nutrition and adequate workouts are important, but make sure your frame of mind is in the right place. I struggled for years with that and when I improved my feelings about myself, my body image improved tremendously.

Good luck to you and keep up the positive attitude ;)

Hey Mrs. P! Thanks so much for responding...I was secretly hoping you would :)

I understand what you are saying, and you are right about the muscle gaining part. I know that part takes a long time. I used to be overweight when I much younger and have kind of had a love/hate relationship with food lol...I know I am too thin now and I would like to get healthier. I am tired of feeling run down and exhausted and it is my own fault. Sometimes I am not sure where I am going with all of this and why I am SO hard on myself, but it is what it is and I am making strides to change that.
I definitely think I am going to contact 3J's. I need guidance as I am not used to figuring out my carbs and protein. I am driven and will go forward with the best methods, so thanks again!!
You look fantastic PS :)

Take care,
Lauren

Hey Detour5,

Wow, you do all that and you are pregnant?! That's awesome!!
Yeah, I definitely have some self-esteem issues, I beat myself up too much and am way TOO critical of myself. I don't fully understand why I am this way. For some stupid reason I am focused on the physical with myself, not others. I feel that if I look a certain way then that will dictate how others treat me...I know this is ridiculous when I actually think about it rationally, however it's a hard thing to not focus on for me. I know clearly there is SOOOO much more to life than the physical and we all will grow older, so being obsessed with the physical is not a good plan lol. It's very encouraging that you were able to make changes and feel better about yourself and things in your life in general.
I hope you are doing well and, thank you again for responding to me :)

Hey Kaiser Sose, thank you for responding. I am honestly not at ALL worried about packing on muscle, I want to, although I know women cannot really PACK on muscle, sigh...I just do not want to pack on fat with that muscle. I have NO problem gaining weight, I am thin bc I choose to be thin ya know?
Thanks for the feedback tho, I plan to eat clean fo sho :)

Thanks Lauren,

Don't worry, we all go through our own body image phases, I used to think I was too skinny until I gained the weight after my 2dn baby, then I thought I needed to loose some, in a few words: Sometimes is hard to accept what you see in the mirror..
I have learned that you have to know your body, and yes, listen to advise, experiment an stick to what works good for u..
Everyone reacts different to excercise, & even the diet that might work for someone your weight, might not work that well for u or vise-versa.

Staying healthy & having a positive body image is 40 % physical & 60 % mental,

We are a society of perfect people. We're all tall and weigh just over one hundred pounds, or at least that's what we see on the media, tv, magazines,etc.. and who ever is not like this is just simply not beautiful.. that's what's being fed to us..(especially women) This is just wrong..

Nobody's perfect! In a world where we're all different, our uniqueness should be celebrated..

If u know your not eating enough, you definitely need to increase and change your diet wisely, 3j can really get u in the right direction, don't worry your in the right track !

hope u get to where u want to be..
Feel free to pm me if u have any questions :)

We all see something different in the mirror from what everyone else sees. Don't be afraid to lift heavy weights, sure your body will change but so will your mind. The key is to find the right balance between diet and training, you are willing to learn so you'll get to where you want to be. Best of luck to you.

Thanks so much Mrs. P! You are SOOOO right on about the stupid media...I am getting on the right path tho and I am determined to stay on it :)

Hope you're doing well!

Hey Nerdalert, thank you. Yes, the mirror can be an evil thing at times lol...Thank you though for your support, it means a lot to me. Everyone here has been really amazing and so kind. I have been to other forums for bodybuilding and nutrition and I can say that this one is my absolute favorite, and the people here are amazing :)

Thanks,
Lauren

Hey Lauren,

make sure you get some good diet advice, but one thing I would say is don't live your life of a diet sheet, use it as a guideline and get as much variety as possible. You want to fuel your body correctly and give it all the nutrients it needs. If I can make a changes anyone can! It is hard work, not the diet and training as much as changing what happens in your mind and the things you think about yourself. When you can be more positive about how you feel about yourself you will have an easier time with the rest. ;o)

You're right, I cannot live my life so rigidly that is consumes everything I do. I am hoping by getting a healthier plan in motion (I've contacted 3J's and am about to start a plan of his) that I will get past this stumbling block of mine.
Btw, you look awesome! I noticed you posted a picture of yourself as your avatar. Hope you're doing well!

Lauren,
Is all about balance, I don't believe in someone completely restricting themselves, is about eating a balanced diet.. you need to allow youself some breaks too, I don't care what anyone else says, no one can eat totally clean and not allow some rewards.
Don't worry your on the right track !

I really struggle with balancing things...I tend to be extreme, like all or nothing, however I am slowly changing that :)

A balance is what I am striving for!

Thanks as always Mrs. P!

Screw balance my :bootyshak

Everything in life needs balance, no one can be successfull in training/ diet or anything else in life without balance.

I'm very dedicated, let's not confuse dedication with balance, You cannot change to a healthier lifestyle with an "All or Nothing" Mentality or your setting yourself up for failure.
You need to allow for flexibility and when things don't go as planned, "you fall 7 times, you get up 8 !!!! "

We are all human, and no one is perfect and who ever claims they are extreme, I say "I call it Bull Sh*t !! ... everyone needs balance.

Blondie, lmh7654 has been struggling with an unhealthy eating habbit for a long time now, she's trying to get back to a healthier weight & diet... The last thing she needs now is a female, that should understand how difficult it could be for some girls to have a positive body image to come in here and say that "Screw balance"..

Let's try and help this member out, and be real with each other...

Mrs P I agree with you, all Bodybuilders know for a fact that is ok to have your cheat meal, your body will appreciate it...

Even pro bodybuilders have their cheat meals,I know enjoy mine !

So, ladies is ok, live your life..
