Glucosamine Alternative for Joints

Well, I tried using glucosamine to aid my joints again and, as I feared, my fasting glucose level jumped 30 points over a month. This is now the second time that the only change I made was adding glucosamine as a supplement and my fasting glucose level has jumped both times by around 30 points in a month.

So glucosamine is out - anyone know of any alternatives I can use?

What is that supplement I used to hear about all the time for joints...cissus maybe????
Deca works wonders at just 100mgs/week too......

Are you a diabetic cybr? I remember you talking about this before, and the only time I could find anything about it doing this was if the person was already a type II diabetic. I happen to fall in that category, but do not suffer the issues you do. Obviously we're all different, but I was curious if this was the case as it would make more sense to me.

Oh, and to your question; MSM is good at high doses, but if it's knees/back/elbows - deca is AMAZING.

Boswellia Serrata and Cissus Quadrangularis work great as supplements, also I have noticed if I eat Prawns/Shrimp with the tails my joints feel great a few hours later. Cissus Quadrangularis can make you drowsy though, so best taken before bed.

turmeric might help (even in pills if you dont like taste.)
i agree on the deca as well.
also 2-4g taurine ed helps many things in the body and although not really known for joints i feel it helps that as well to a degree, and its cheap and good for a host of other things.
ohh and good ol legal medi mj helps inflammation and pain.

I am not, but only because I have a great diet (via 3J). My family on my father's side has a history of diabetes. EVERY ONE OF THEM became diabetic regardless of lifestyle and food habits except for my dad. My normal fasting glucose is around 86, but after a month of glucosamine it jumps over 110, only to drop back into the 80s when I stop taking it. I figured I would try again after the first time just in case it was something else - nope.

MSM and Deca at 100mg/week sound like where I will start. Medical Marijuana just became legal in my state, but you have to have a doctor give it to you and it is an injection...odd, I know, but a good first step. I have also added turmeric to my diet recently - I like the earthy taste.

I might as well add taurine as well, can only help, right? :)

That is just so interesting to me as glucosamine IS a form of sugar, but it's not supposed to impact glucose at all. Do you have issues with common sugar alcohols too? Like sorbitol, etc found in "sugar free" candies.

Its legal but you have to go to a doctor to get an injection each time you want it? damn!

I have never tried s*****ol so I have no idea. When I looked at the American Diabetes Association website about it they said it should not have any impact on people who are monitoring their glucose levels. That really says nothing, it could mean that glucose levels will go up but as long as you're monitoring it you can take care of the increase or it could mean it doesn't go up.

I had read a paper from the Mayo clinic, which sparked my curiosity as sugar alcohols supposedly do the same thing (we can't process it) . The link below is the overview page, just some interesting information.

Just goes to show how we are all so different, yet still bleed red all the same. :) I have arthritis in my spine and knees, and deca has REALLY been awesome, I think you'll be happy.

Deca!! I do 200mgs a week for severe arthritis in my knees and it's been the only thing that has worked and I've tried just about every over the counter supplement there is! Just make sure you keep an eye on your blood work.

What are you going to dose MSM at? The reason I ask is if I recall the most credible study I have seen showing MSM improved arthritis pain the dosage was very high. I think it was 6g/day taken in 2-3g doses.

No idea, but I will start with 3mg a day (half the study dose) and work up from there if needed. It is actually pretty cheap when you buy it in bulk.

I tend to get all the strange side effects from things. I refuse to read the potential side effect list on things until after I notice strange things happening, just to make sure I am not causing them to happen.

As an aside, I also have sweet smelling sweat. Seriously, I have had people ask what cologne I am wearing because they liked its smell...yeah, I am a strange bird. That one I do not care to cure, though! :)

Seriously, look into what I had suggested in my earlier post, worked great for me, after glucosamine had dehydrated the crap out of me
