Glutamine - how much to take?

Have you read anything in this thread? Or did you just decide to jump in near the middle somewhere? Ive used glutamine before, and wasted a good bit of money on it. I have forgotten more about supplements, biochemistry, physiology, etc. than you know, Im certain of that. So to discount peer review studiesbased on the fact you cant read and understand them is foolish. Along with the several years Ive spent in school, Ive spent a comparable amount in the gym. So unless you have something valid to add to this debate, which thus far youve only proved youre clueless, please do not post again.,
 
so to review my original question, how much should I take?

by the way, I'm taking 20g a day, and the bottle is almost done...I will stop taking it for a month after I'm done the bottle, and I'll post whether I notice a difference in size, strength, or ANYTHING.


Just a note, I can't say for sure if its the glutamine, but I am definately stronger over this past month that I have ever been (for example I can do 60's on shoulder press without a spot for 8 whole reps...I've never done more than 50's without a spot previously)...so if I stop taking the glutamine and notice I can only do 50's, I'll know why...we shall see!! :p

and the effects aren't pyschological, as if I THINK its helping, because I really doubt it works for strength after reading those studies...but now, I am starting to wonder again

Okay, I've been off glutamine for a week, here's what I noticed:

-no decrease in strength
-no decrease in size
-decrease in muscle recovery

This has only been 1 week off of it, so it may be too early to tell. The main difference I've noticed is the muscle recovery. My legs still hurt a lot from 2 days ago, especially when I try to sit up, this did not happen while taking glutamine. I felt fine by the next day.

I've also read that glutamine can help with cell volumization and tissue repair. I've recently had surgery, so thats another reason to keep taking glutamine

The whole thing about glutamine helping the intestines...would taking glutamine prevent hemroids? I don't understand exactly what is meant by intenstinal integrity


Bottom Line - I will continue to take glutamine

Soreness post workout is a result of reactive oxygen species (ROS), to reduce this, one would need an anti-oxidant of sorts, I apologize, but glutamine is not one of these, so your theory one reducing soreness is void. Please dont throw in your 2 cents unless you have a physiological clue as to what youre talking about.

having 3 national competitors in my gym taking 15 - 20 mgs a day i would rely on their info rather than wait for your " research "

And the competitors at my gym use Cell Tech :rolleyes: 15-20mgs a day isnt even absorbed, tell them theyre wasting their time and money. Big muscles do not equal big brains, remember that.

Yellow Jacket, I'm not quite sure you're able to come to that conclusion just yet.
 
No, im pretty sure Im able. Anything under ~40mgs a day is useless.

You can't say that until you address the freeing up of endogenous glutamine.

Also, you have not yet addressed the glutathione issue.
 
Redgardless of freeing up glutathione (which from the little research I have done, theres no evidence it does so), it would take at least ~40mgs to have the desired effect. Anything under 40mgs is eaten up by the gut or stripped and used as glucose, Im not sure if even 40mgs is enough.

Also, Im a pretty busy man, you guys are more than welcome to do your own research.
