ok evertime im at the gym doin my thing this guy comes in, i know him, like kinda hes a friends older brother and i know hes on test cuz of his bro. he comes in every day and grabs a pair of 35's or 40's what does he do??
does he lay down and do good quality low volume sets of flat presses? does he do rows? does he work his shoulders.......FUCK NO he does sets of fuckin CURLS EVERY DAY no variation, just standing there with his gameface on in front of the mirror, and i do mean every day. i wanna tell him that his arms are not going to grow, and not to mention ive watched him do this for 5 months, should i kick him in his face or tell him nicely

Tell him nicely, If you are a lot bigger than him he may just take your advice. Speak softly and carry a big stick as Teddy Roosevelt wisely remarked.

I know this guy, too. And a lot of friends of this guy. Benches and curls, nothing else. And when I do squats, they look at me like I would come from a neighbouring solar system of alpha centauri.
Since I have my iPod and a lot of Rammstein on it, I can manage.

I got yer big stick right here

But seriously though, what better way to get your point across than to let him find out, on his own, that the shit he's doing isnt working.

I workout in a gym that is mostly kids, but they have all the powerlifting stuff i need. Their are some really strong benchers for their age, yet they have no back whatsoever, and no legs. It is everywhere.

and hey i realize at one time most of us were these guys but hey at least we learned right

we all start somewhere, some are lucky enough to have guidence from the start, some arnt...i say you take the nice approach and give him a hand...and if he still doesnt listen, he'll just have to learn on his own after he sees hes getting nowhere...im by far not an expert, but me and my training partners help out young ones almost everyday:)

Best way to learn is from experiences.

Thats 75% of all guys in every gym all over the world. And don't forget crunches, they do a SHITLOAD of ab work too... But the way I look at it, they're just letting me get that much further ahead of them. You focus on you and leave the doorknobs to do their own thing.
:rolleyes2

LOL, nicel said. I know what your sayin bro. I always want to tell people at my gym to do their movements slow and strict but I end up keeping my mouth shut. Just say hey man I got this killer routine of the ent wanna try it with me.

slow is not always the proper way to lift. strict yes but not slow. depends on the movement and what you working on.

how you gonna do speed work slow? :D

I didn't mean slow in the terms of the 10 second positive 5 second negative routine in that book big, although people sware by it. Just a steady movement. I see people always throwin weight around all fast cause their tryin to do more then they can handle.

What's speed work entail?

I always thought that the proper speed for working sets you are supposed to have a slow, steady controlled negative, but on the posative motion its ok to just go as fast as your body allows (but in a working set this isnt very fast). Is that right?
btw i dont know anything about speed work but pullinbig has some videos of someone doing bench speed in his sticky's.

Yeah I thought slow and steady was right to. I lift the same way as you my negatives are kinda slow then power out of the positive. Theres a bog called big. It's a bulk building routine one of the older pro's came up with. 10 second positive 5 second negative, weird huh? Backwards then what Im used too. Truthfully, I tried a few w/o's like that and it just whiipped my ass to hard.
