long story short,

i have trouble benching, ive tried a lot of different grips, but still feel it tons in my shoulders and tris, but not to much in chest (think its because my left arm is shaped dif than my right lol), n e ways

dumbell bench is ok with me, but i dont go up in weight much.

i tried some of the hammer machines in my gym for chest yesterday, and felt it more in my chest.

my whole routines are pretty much free weights, i know there better. would there be any downfall to using the hammer for a few weeks every once in a while>?

there is no way that it will be a downfall. actually i use the hammers every other week after my dumbbell workout. everybody is different: so do what works for you. but i would definately stay with the dumbbell workout first incline and flat switch it up,,, then maybe some fly's ,, then hit the hammer's ...

i thought this was a thread about me....lol...

better to use machines if your form is off, maybe throw in a few sets of light weight high reps to build form/strength...there are people who swear by free weights and those who swear by machines, no real diffrence in my opinion except it takes more concentration and form with free weights (not a bad thing)...

your tri's are a secondary muscle used when you work chest, so feeling it in your tri's isnt a bad thing...

No its better to learn proper form and use freeweights as the bread and butter of your routine.

i agree, train all of the stabalizer muscles that are involved in useing dumbbells. or barbells whatever the case may be.

i agree... i was thinking he could use both, but gradually ween himself off the machines as his form/strength increases from machine use....

how wide is your grip on bb benchpress and where do you bring the bar to on the chest ?

i used to have a really wide grip (which fucked up my shoulder), then i moved it in more (dont know how to properly explain). we have a ring on our bb at my gym, i put my ring finger on it.

i bring the bar down to my chest and touch (not bounce though ).
