Help me learn to be a good personal trainer. . .

I have a hookup with a friend, im starting within a week at WOW as a personal trainer. I have 90 days to get certified, but I can start training clients right away. Problem is, im not sure what the staples of being a personal trainer are. I only know how to train muscleheads and young men. Im kinda worried about training women, old people, and overweight people correctly, and il most likley be in that spot within a week. Can anyone direct me to any free sites or information that would greatly help me be the best personal trainer I can be? Im a perfectionist, so if I do something, and I like helping people improve their bodies, I wanna be the best. I will put as much time and effort into it needed, so give me all you got, and you can bet il read it many times over til its second nature to me.

I wouldn't try to get certified in 90 days if you are a perfectionist. It should take you longer if you do it right. ISSA or ACE.

Yeah certification should take longer than 90 days. Hell i got mine from ACSM and that was a long time in the making. Damn college degree requirement.

ISSA has one of the best programs if you are into weight training. Take their course and the course materials they send to you are very valuable.

Well i wasnt sayin id be an expert in 90 days. Id start by getting a regular easy cert, so i cna keep the job, then id get a bettter one in time. Im looking for information on here to learn to be a good personal trainer, i could care less what my paper work says, as long as i know im good, and i get results, and make people happy.

ACE is an easy cert to get you started. I have a CSCS and that was a bitch, but if you want to get your feet wet than ACE is probably the quickest and easiest place to start.

Well here is the problem. The paper work might not matter to you. But to a potential client it means the world. Getting results for your client and them passing the word on is great. However most of the clients I get that i "MAKE" money on, are not them.

Here is what happens

Lets say New Years is coming up. There are TONS of people making new years resolutions to get in shape. They come in looking to make changes. We'll i sign them to a contract for 6 months with direct billing by check.

Your probably asking how do i get them to sign for so long. We'll i keep my rates reasonable where its affordable and their already wanting to be there and think they'll stay.

We'll what happens to 90% of them. They quit coming after 2 months. Thats great for me because they are locked into a contract that i can direct bill. So i get paid to do nothing.

You know how i can get those clients over some of the other trainers. My certification. It says American College of Sports Medicine. They see that and its a no brainer when it comes to choosing between me and someone with ACE.

So this is just a small example. Trust me I don't like working with these people, (as i much rather work with competitive athletes). However the clients i described are the ones that support me and afford free time for me.

I coach gymnastics and the most important road to success as a trainer is:
to create goals for each individual--get a plan to attain--have the knowlege to do so---keep records--and do the work needed!
Remember each person is a little science fair project and your success depends on their success!!

i have my cscs, skimmed the book once, took it, passed no problem.
cscs is more for strength training though imo, some of the other certs are more for training the average joe to generally get into shape.

I agree Ingram. I HATE the old ladies, they forget what a bicep curl is every time and some of them I have had for 6 months. The 40 year old guys are the best and of courser the younger girls that are in good shape already because even if they bitch they are fun to look at.

How much do you guys (personaltrainers) ask per hour...and are you freelance PT or also working at the gym itself?

man theres this girl at my gym whos a personal trainer and shes so fuckin hilarius

I've hardly seen her clients actually do any work, all she does is talk about something thats not even related to lifting

routines clearly dont exist for her since usually she takes her people from something like leg press to bicep curls and than maybe some calves

she talks even when the client is doing his/her set and she always seems like shes lost and in a hurry

shes kinda hot though I have to give her that

so if you look good and got the body I think you should be fine

just dont put too much pressure on them or they will sue you

Yeah how much do you guys make per hour?

Anyway I can get fake certificates but my best asset is my body and thats my proof that I know how to train :D
