Anyone have experience with hernia post op recovery. Messed myself up a few days ago and having surgery next week. Got three opinions from different Doc's all of which say I need surgery and a couple months of recovery.

Any one go through it?
Thanks.

yup when I was like 10. It happened while playing soccer. Not sure how or what did it but basically I had the surgery and it took me 3 months to get back on the field. Socce isn't weight training though. I'd Imagine 3 months of recovery would be enough as long as you ease back into it. You should really consult your doc on this one though.

Hey Bigger thanks for the reply. My Dr. is saying 2 months minimum and maybe more. So pretty much like what you went through. This sucks, I was making some good gains and now I'm shut down.

O.K. thanks again for the quick reply. I appreciate it.

when i was 20 i got operated for hernia in my gut !
...i was told to wait 3 months before training again....the first few weeks after surgery, i was told not to lift anything heavier than a carton of milk !

it sucked big time, and i lost 30 lbs ! :(

...but 1 month after i begun training again, i allready put on 20 llb again !

Good luck bro !

Thank you for sharing that. Its good to hear from people who have experienced this. Not looking forward to the down time, but its good to hear you made quick gains once you were able to get back in the gym.

Can I ask if it bothers you at all today and if you have had to change your training at all as a result?

Thanks again for the reply.

I had triple hernia surgery about 2 years ago. 2 in the stomach and one "down there". They meshed all three of them at the same time. I must admit, for the first 2 weeks after surgery, I was miserable. I had to pee in a Gatorade jug because I couldn't get out of bed.

Today I am back in the gym and stronger than I have ever been. Fully recovered, but it took about 2 months to get back. Make sure you were some type of support (belt, wrap...) about 6 months after your surgery. You may feel fine, but the mesh they use to fix the hernia needs time to heal internally.

Wow. Triple hernia? Now that sounds wicked. I can't imagine how that must have felt. Just having one is bad enough.

I'll take your advice on wearing the belt for support for sure.
Thanks for the insight.

nope, it does not bother me today at all, and i changed nothing about my training.....the 3 months after surgery where i could not train, was the worst problem...and the longest break from BB i have had in 14 years of training ! :D

you will soon bounce back again bro, im sure ! :)

no bother at all today. Of course mine was when I was 10 or 11 and I'm 26 now. I lift as heavy as I can. The only thing is I have a scar just below my waistline. No problems at all though. Good luck and just give it time.

Thanks for the feed back you guys. I appreciate it very much. With what you guys have said I have a much better undestanding on what to expect. Very helpful.

Been training for just over 20 years and have had many many injuries, but this is my first hernia and had no idea on what to expect. Now I do. Thanks again.

I've had 3 umbilical repairs in my life. The last one was about 14 years ago, I was 32. I laid off the gym for 4 weeks. I took test to speed recovery. It surprised the doc that I had healed in 4 weeks. Get the surgery done and you can do light workouts about 2 weeks later. Use your better judgement. What kind of hernia do you have. Be careful when you sneeze post surgery.

Nico thank you for the response. You kept taking test and feel it helped speed up your recovery? To be able to do light workouts in two weeks sounds great. I have a lower left groin hernia. Not sure of the tech term for it is eventhough they told me many times. Feels like someone just keeps booting me in the balls over and over.

I will use my better judgement like you say for sure after surgery. Thank you for taking to time to share your experience with me Nico Cujo. All you guys have me feeling much better about all this. Thank you.
