Well, I'm a pharmacist. And
no, we don't make medicine from scratch. We know how they work and how to use them properly. We know about drugs as doctors know about diseases. We are supposed to team up with doctors to give meds the best use possible. If you want to actually make the medicine, you can study pharmacology or medicinal chemistry. Those are the areas related to where the medicines come from and what they do in our bodies. Some pharmacists also work at the pharmaceutical industry as part of the research and development of new drugs. But, most pharmacists end up working at hospitals or at pharmacies (like Rite-Aid or Walgreens).
I love what I do, but if you want something more into science, you can make a degree in chemistry, pharmacology or something related and work on research.

No, a pharmacist doesnt make the medicine. They dispense it. They do make somethings, but its more of adding things together, not coming up with new drugs. The only "making" they do is to mix things..like amoxicillan or compound creams and ointments. However, dont think that being a pharmacist is any easier than being a doctor. You are a doctor, you just dont have a Medical Degree, you have a Pharm. D. Also, the tuition is VERY expensive and pharmacy school is very VERY challenging. Pharmacists dont make as much as they do for no reason. Check out ACP. (Albany College of Pharmacy) that's where I go. However, rumor has it that starting next year, no student will be admitted without a Bachelors degree already obtained. And as far as the first answer goes, pharmacists know a LOT more than doctors do about medications. I've worked in a pharmacy for a while now MDs call very frequently to ask about drugs, whether or not they should be giving a patient it, how much to give them, and how often to give it to them. A pharmacist knows more than an MD when it comes to drugs because that is what they specialized in. The MD only has a brief background of pharmacy studies.

You are very young to assume that you will find it impossible to follow your dream of becoming a doctor. If you study very hard and do well in your exams you will be shown opportunities to pay for your training. Nursing is also a wonderful medical profession and you get to work with people who need your help too. Talk to your career guidance teacher in school before closing you options and...good luck.

Depends on what field you want to get into. Many pharmacists are retail or hospital oriented and do not make their own meds.

A compounding pharmacist may mix up personal / special formulations of different treatments. Most pharmacists dispense the medication and provide support and information to clients. It is their job to ensure that there are no drug interactions, that dosing is correct and that end-use compliance is understood. They do not "make"the drugs, that is the responsibility of many research and development scientists and the pharmaceutical companies!
The pharmasist acts as a liason to the public and is a last gateway to ensure safety and compliance with prescribed medicines. They also dispense certain "over the counter" medicines that require user knowledge and care, provide assistance with medical devices. Thier role as a primary health care provider is becoming more and more important as the range and scope of available medications increases and the needs of the health care system change.
Don't be fooled - a pharmacist's education is similar in length to a doctor. If you are looking for a shorter program, something like pharmacy assistant may be more what you are looking for.

In the old days, pharmacists mixed medicines by hand and measured them out, but now they mostly just count pills and make sure the labels have the right dosage instructions and warnings. They have to know almost as much as doctors do about different medicines and what they are good for and when they can be dangerous.
Pharmaceutical companies make the medicines, in a factory. They hire chemical engineers to design them.

I found this on Yahoo answers and strait out of a pharmacists mouth!!!! They do not synthesize any medications or drugs!!!
They make on the average 100,000 USD a year and that would NEVER be enough to fund an HGH lab, furthermore they do not have the capabilities in their licensing or education for such tasks!!!!
