i wouldn't tell a student she was pretty either. but if she asked me if i was on steroids and said it was because i looked really big, i wouldn't feel uncomfortable about telling saying thank you, those are two worlds apart in my book.
note, i don't teach in a classroom, but i have been part of coaching and training staff with women's athletics. in your case it sounds like an issue of immaturity on the girl's part, and things being awkward would suck, but it probably sucked the most for her and i'm not sure i'd get myself that worked up over it or do things differently the next time.
professionalism is defined in how you respond to situations like that. and you can accept a compliment, and even pull drunken woman off you in a bar and explain that isn't acceptable, in a way that shows that professionalism.
LOL at someone who's never cycled giving advice about something they've never had to deal with.
OK I ain't pullin no drunken women off me at the bar!!!!!!!!!! Unless its Zeeks Ice Cream Troll!!!!!!!!!!!
totally off topic, but da hurt, are your sweatpants down around your ankles in your avatar? it looks that way to me. just curious cause i wonder it every time i see your avatar. i need some closure on this issue!
Yeah except you can't use that line on an 85 lb Asian female pre-med student...and you would make it quite awkward turning it into a situation where the student is paying you a compliment on your physical appearance.
There is no 'right' or 'wrong' way to go about this. If that makes you feel better about yourself, then do it that way.
Implying that I did it naturally by side-stepping the question and thanking them wouldn't do shit for me because I didn't do it naturally.

So I've never done AS before but in 2006 I did do a PH cycle that yielded pretty solid results. Right now I'm looking at a possible AS cycle around January and curious how you all hide the fact that you're cycling.
I only ask because when I ran my PH cycle I was a graduate student and teaching some of the lower level classes in my discipline. Towards the end of my run one of my student athletes asked me privately what I was taking because he could tell (I told him the truth because I wasn't taking anything illegal). Now that I'm teaching full time and considering a legit AS cycle, I'd really like to avoid arousing any sort of suspicion. Is this even remotely possible given the fact that I will be standing in front of the same people 3-4 days a week for the duration of my cycle?
Any advice is appreciated.
I'm a university professor and I have been for 13 years and I do it every day..what is awkward about it?
Not sweatpants, but jeans and yes they are - just dropped them really quick for my weekly update pictures that I send to my nutritionist.
?
My experience has been that accepting compliments (aside from of course just "Thanks" and moving on) from female students (remember they're often only 1-3 years younger than me, or even my age) opens the door in their eyes to future, even friendlier, interactions. I have personally found that the best approach I can take is to keep our conversations on the topic of toxicology or biochemistry (the two classes I teach).
It has happened to me numerous times - they all start adding me on Facebook, I get invited to Sorority parties, or out for drinks, dinner, etc. Once I had a student somehow get my cell phone number and called me at 2 AM on several occasions. Not cool.
I suppose it isn't awkward the moment you accept the compliment, but rather more so in the future when the aforementioned events can transpire.
Again, this has been my sole experience - I do happen to be devilishly handsome and extremely likeable, so perhaps that is the difference...![]()
Let's be honest here, if you don't like fielding these types of questions maybe you should just stay natural. Seriously. I don't know why anyone would feel the need to do this lifestyle and then be self-conscious or uncomfortable with the obvious reactions that your development is going to generate.
