Hypertension

Some tricks about measuring BP: do it at home... measure it at least 3X with about a minute in between as sometimes the first reading can be abnormally high. And yeah, if you are salt sensitive, keep your daily intake to less than 1/2 gram, substitute potassium and try to drink a gallon of liquids each day (the latter routine really helped me).

Hot Nurses

Hot Nurses make my BP go up too, amongst other things. Ha Ha. I'm currently on BP medication b/c I have it genetically. Mine tends to be around 130 over 80 which is great for me. Your BP changes throughout the day and to get an accurate measurement you have to take it several times. I've tried the machines at work and in the drug store and they have small cuffs so my BP is always way high, then I go to the docs and it's fine.

I also have found that many of the electronic BP readings can be inaccurate compared to the old fashioned ones.

Definitely. If you are going to use a machine at home you should use it for a few weeks and then bring it in to your doc's office so you can test it's accuracy against what he comes up with. Mine turned out to be spot on.
