i have a dilemma.

i recently found a powerlifting gym in my area with a team that competes twice a year. I was talking to the head of the outfit (who is also chairman for the state for USAPL) today and he said i could join no problem. everyone there was very cool and i know i would fit right in. the only problem is they only compete in drug-tested meets. i didnt get into gear with him, but some people are really against it and i would feel awkward if they all knew im geared. i would really like to train here but i cant compete with them at meets. also i dont know if i woould be welcome if i told them i cycle. what do i do? i know i wont make progress at my current gym, but i also dont want to give up gear for a few more years.

I agree with Easto. Join the gym and just keep your mouth shut about the gear.

I wonder if these guys are going to 'really drug free lifters' drug-free meets, or 'not really drug free lifters' drug-free meets. Also, when they say drug-free, you are sure they are talking about gear, right? Cause I heard the other day about situations where they test for shit like methamphetamine but not gear.

On the other hand, I don't understand why you wouldn't make gains at your current gym unless it is REALLY bad.

i coould train with them but i would feel like the odd man, you know. they might give me the cold shoulder. and how much fun would that be.

Can you pay a bit of extra money and join on a trial basis? Like just pay each time you visit the gym or get a 1 month contract or something?

Curious: Who is stronger? You or them?

i say train with them,,, and the fact that your on gear,,, thats NONE of thier business..... everyone has different opinions and morals, don't let them inflict thiers on you.... you don't look down on women with fake knockers do you? .... that was a decision they made to enhance thier body's ! .... go lift with them and say nothing... i think thats the way to go.

i could join but theyll all wonder why i dont compete. theyll figure it out sooner or later. Ill join for a month and feel it out, get to know the guys. maybe im making this a bigger deal than it needs to be.

its not bad, it just doesnt have some of the things i would like to have. theres only so much one can do at a commercial gym.

Every gym has people who use gear, and a good chunk of those people are puny.

As for feeling like the odd man out, you seem to already feel that way at your commercial gym anyways :)

it really depends on the type of person..that is something you wont know unless you ttrain with them..

i will say it would be wrong to compete in a tested even-but i think you know that..matbe sitting down with the head coach and perhaps he would be willing to take you on and put you in non-tested meets?

I am in Jersey, and their is a USAPL gym here, i would not go thier if i used steroids, they would look down on it from what i understand. Also do not lift in a drug tested fed while using. Thier are enough non tested feds. I plan on doing USAPL stuff in the futured, i am drug free now almost 2 years, but i think i need to be for 3, and am going to wait. I personally want to do some single ply stuff in the future. Find another gym, but i can almost guarantee they will have a problem with it if they know.
