I'm going to do a triathalon

I've decided to try somthing different to make me a more well rounded athlete. I'm going to do a sprint triathalon. My goal is to finish. I don't plan on buying a road bike, but I have a serviceable mountain bike. I may go for an event that is off road (such as xterra). There is one at Lake Tahoe in September but the bike sounds very hard for a first timer since it is long for a sprint and involves a lot of climbing.

I picked up a simple book that is motivational. I've been running for a few months more steadily and I can do 6-6.5 miles in an hour. I've also swam maybe 8-10 sessions now and I'm good for 1000 meters in 30 minutes (20 minutes the time I borrowed a wetsuit). I bought some padded bike pants today and I'll start riding outside when weather allows, indoors on lifecycles when it doesn't.

I plan to stay above 200 lbs. so I'll be a Clydesdale.

I do stay on AS year round and currently am supplementing my test with some dbol. That might have caused a calf strain last time I ran - my right calf is still sore 9 days later.

Anyway, that's my plan. Now that I've announced it I have to follow through.

good luck Tdog, sounds like an amazing challenge

What is your bodyweight now?

Sounds good bro! I just started doing cardio again for the first time in about 2 years - man that shits hard!

sure you're doing a triathlon mate, any excuse to get a pair of bike pants!! :insane2:

Good luck with your training, what does your training vs lifting schedule look like?

Good luck. I told my wife I would do a triathlon with her but my training is lacking. I can run 2 miles in 20 minutes, but 6-6.5 in an hour? Hell no. I'm having a hard time with the running...lots of pain, too.

Sucks.

Anyway, I respect you for doing this. Definitely good to be a well rounded athlete.

I'm 202 lbs. now. About 10% bodyfat. I am trying to gain just a few on the dbol, maybe get to 205 so hopefully I can stay above 200 for the event(s).

I lift 4x per week for an hour each time. I'm doing about 5 hours of cardio or so per week.

The book I got preaches lots of training sessions in the range of 60% of max heart rate. That's only about 110 beats per minute. It seems very passive to me since I can go an hour at 150 beats per minute. I'm still thinking on whether I really want to back off...?

Well shit I was going to ease my way into this but it turns out there is an event near Sacramento on April 1, so I guess I'm diving in.

lol if your gonna jump the jump in with both feet :)

updates are mandatory BTW

Had a good bike ride today, an easy pace. 90 minutes at 130 beats per minute. Bummer at the end - I got a flat 2 miles from home and had to walk it home.

Its weird for me to ride at less intensity than I can handle, but apparently that's the thing to do. I'm told that if you train well beyond your anaerobic threshold, your body won't get as effecient at delivering oxygen to the working muscles. Thus, you're supposed to do a lot of training at 50-70% of your max heart rate.

I think I need a day off tomorrow or maybe I should cut back on the lifting. I trained legs, traps, and delts today and swimming was really hard afterwards. I called it quits after 500 meters. It was my 5th training day in a row.

I'm hanging in there, easing into it. I've been biking and swimming regularly. After a 2 week break from running while my calf healed, I finally did a 30 minute run today. I was ok to go further but I'm at work and duty called, and kept calling until dinner.

I managed to swim 1500 meters in 50 minutes late last night. I should swim with my wetsuit, it would be more pleasant. I'm going to order some paddles and a buoy for swimming.

The weather here is hideous so there will probably be no outdoor biking this week. I'll have to get a few sessions in on the lifecycle.
