This is my first post so bear with me please!Just over a year ago i hurt my right shoulder, went to the doc who told me to rest it and gave me some celebrx. Two months later started working out again really light weights but pain in my right shoulder and forearm stopped me again ,back to the doc who gave me viox and i had ultrasound, active release therapy, massage and electro stimulation!!!This went on for about three months with no real results apart from right arm losing size and strength!!!i returned to Ireland from the States in sept and saw another doc. This doc has given me three cortisone injections in the last few months two in my right delts and one in the bicep tendon and my arm has slightly improved but not to a great amount, also been taking other anti inflammatories.Just wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar because it starting to do me in!cheers !P.S.Sorry this post is so long!

It sounds like you need some more diagnostic testing. i don't know what the healthcare situation is in ireland but if you can get an MRI it might tell you more.
I had a pretty severe shoulder injury and was able to recover from it well, but i had a lot of tests done to determine if i needed surgery.
One bit of advice- if you're told to rest- listen. obviously you are aggravating the problem whenever you go back to lifting and setting yourself back. you can workout the other arm, using machines whenever possible and you might lose less strength that way. their are studies that show this is true and its what i did- i was in the gym every day with my left arm in a sling and lifting with my right arm and i was able to come back without having lost much stregth.

Have a shoulder ultrasound first, its cheaper than MRI and shows rotator cuff and biceps tendonitis (long head) accurately. MRI is better for showing labral tears, but tendinitis will also show up, downside is that MRI is expensive.
Reserve a shoulder arthroscopy as a last resort.
Be parient. Shoulder injuries take a long time to heal back to normal, and the mistake is going back too soon.

MRI definitely. IMO, that should have been the first course of action after the 2 months of rest failed. How was the functional testing? That should tell your doc a lot about what's wrong, if he's worth a damn.
