Is it a must to work on legs

If your legs are disproportionately huge, then by all means feel free to spend that time working on other muscles, as your body will be able to handle more volume on the other groups. You could lay off until everything else is up to speed.

However, if you wanted to get a wicked squat weight, you may want to keep hitting them. Also, be aware that you may be the only one that feels your legs are huge, you should get a second opinion before you go and make a fool out of yourself :P Post some pics if possible.

At 185 your legs aren't jacked at all, you're imagining things, its probably fat.

Post your deadlft and squat numbers, and then your bench, and we can see how freaky your legs are.

That crashing sound was reality. Ouch, mudge.

thanks guys for the input. I get second opinions everytime i wear shorts, everybody's like holyfuck your legs man! I meant jacked for my body, thats why i started working out in the first place, so my body doesn't look so skinny up top. I heard that when you work out your legs your body makes a certain type of testosterone that it dosen't make anywhere else thats good for gains. Anyways I will post a picture asap. thanks again

I have no idea where you heard your body makes 'special test' when you train legs...LOL.

Most 'do I need to squat?' threads are started by wussies and disco bodybuilders who just make us actaul lifters sick. But like everyone said if you have MASSIVE legs then giving them a break while you bring up your upper body is fine. Just dont use it as a cop out.

i don't think he is using it as a cop out at all .. he was just asking a simple question. and wanted a straight answer

There is some evidence that working large muscle groups (such as the legs) increases GH and Test levels. BUT the increases are quite nominal in the grand scheme of things, and won't provide any noticeable anabolic properties beyond what your 'normal' levels would.

Ditto. I see how you might take this to mean something akin to "special testosterone," but IM's assessment is dead on - Just a little more, nothing special about it.

Just yesterday I had people coming up to me in the gym because of my shrugs (475) I told them that was nothing, why? Because I'm as strong as a national powerlifter half my bodyweight just about (suited of course).

Most people have no f#cking clue what strong or big is, some people tell me I have gone to far with size and I have no clue what they are smoking but I dont want any!

Seriously man, if you are happy being 185 pounds or something then thats great, but I would not call those big legs unless your whole underbody was 185 pounds and your upper body another 140 ;) But thats just my opinion, and everyone has one.

If you dont train legs, your just a beach body lifter.

Growth hormone release, however I dont know if it triggers an increased release at night or a premature release during the daytime. It would be nice to know.

Anywhooo, if you can deadlift and squat WAY more than you can bench then you are right, your legs are jacked or you dont bench very much :)

Im with Mudge on this one, @ 185 youre legs arnt nothing much. It all depends on what youre goals are aswell?
Waiting for the pic and the squatting weights

lol .. i wouldn't go comparing a person with a bodybuilder or nothing..

your legs can be big at 185 ... like he said.. in proportion to the rest of his body.

i wouldn't classify huge as being someone only 250 + .. thats just my opinion thuogh

I know a 5'7" 205 guy that looks pretty good, but I'd still not call him huge. Now if a 14 year old kid saw him then sure, to such a person he is "huge" or "a jacked mofo."

You know what they say though, opinions are like penises. Only the smart people have them. :laugh4: Ok, that was my "I didn't really mean it" joke of the day.

ladies , i think he meant it :D

im late into this topic but you really need to work legs , even if you think your legs are bigger in proportion to your upper body . first off that puts you in a very small group because theres probably a dozen num nuts running around at my gym who wont wont even wear shorts because ive busted their chops so much . i walk up to them real close and point at their legs and say is that your legs or are you riding a chicken , ive actually shamed one of them into squatting and now that hes making progress i brag on him in front of the other ones .
dont quit working legs just bust your ass and make the upper body catch up

You also need to consider some studies that suggest your body tends to want to grow proportianally. Meaning, if you dont train your legs, your upper body wont grow as much as you want it too. Also, an intense leg training workout can also be a great cardio workout. I sweat like a freaking dog when I do them. And remember that weightraining also burns fat. If you skip legs, that is less fat burning you are getting. My suggestion is do legs no matter what. No one likes working legs, everyone hates it including me. Leg workouts are complete Hell, But you gotta do them. I do 2 leg workouts, 1 upper body workouts every other week, and then 2 upper body workouts and 1 leg workout during the alternating weeks. It really seems like I burn more fat during the weeks in which I do 2 leg workouts and 1 upperbody workout.

Some people are happy with very little (like the guys that lift for 2 weeks and think they are jacked) and some people are never really satisfied where they are at, I'm in the second category.

Your legs are big when they are over 30 inches and solid beef :D

one of the lifters i trained with was around 150 pounds , his lifting belt was one of the lever belts and his belt was tighter on my leg than it was on his waist :D
i wasnt making fun of him he trained hard and heavy but had a tiny build and a high metabolism

thanks DADAWGI and DARTHTEXAN and the rest who gave educated answers.
Now as i read this on going thread that started out has a simple question, i can't seem to understand how it ended up with some of the answers. Obviously "jacked" was a bad choice of words. Don't worry mudge(or should i say fudge) I didn't mean to say my legs look better then yours, I'm sure yours look just fine poopy pants! If you are that insecure that you cannot let people think whatever they want about them selves then bb is not what you need, oh and thanks for letting everybody know how much you do in shrugs I'm hopping this made you feel better about yourself.
To the rest of you guys I didn't mean to brag about my legs, infact I fucking hate the way look, sorry if it came across like that it just that I've played pro hockey in Europe my whole life and the extensive weight program was more geared for my legs and endurance! Just wanted a second opinion thanks!!!
