Justin Harris says cardio = diet

Justin Harris says eating 5k cals and burning 1k cals off in cardio is the same as eating 4k cals.

Do you agree?

Personally, I notice that the increased metabolic rate often attributed to cardio is a myth. I agree with Justin Harris's opinion except in the case of HIIT cardio. In this case, you do seem to get some increase metabolic rate throughout the day (I sweat a lot easier and my heart rate stays up a bit) after your cardio session. However, you burn far less calories on hiit cardio, unless you want to submit your body to a lot of stress.

On HIIT cardio, I'd say that eating 5k calls and doing 500 cals worth of HIIT cardio is probably much more effective than just eating 4500 cals. Thoughts?

I dont really agree with that, if he's going to say taking in 5k and burning 1k is taking in 4k.

Then you have to take into account BMR which could be another 2k or more calories. And going by what he said would be taking in only 2k calories a day or something around there.

I knew thered be at least one that didnt get it.

lol

Its more or less the same. Aside from the other obvious benefits of cardio vs no cardio like improved heart and lung function and increasing your appetite(which can be good or bad depending on what your goals are).

other benefits of cardio at higher intensities is the mitochindrial increase as well as the muscles ability to burn fat at higher intensities due to greater efficiency.

I would trust what Justin Harris has to say. That dude is as big is a house and ripped to shreds on stage. He also is a contest prep guru, so he knows his shit (not just how to get himself into shape)
