Lab Results

Do these lab results tell anything?

*** I told my MD I wanted to be evaluated because I think my testosterone levels are low and I can’t grow, no matter what I eat and do. He ran these tests by taking 2 vials of blood. This doesn’t tell me anything about my testosterone levels. Basically he said, “you’re fine, go home, you don’t need testosterone therapy.”

Tests: Phosphorus, Basic Metabolic Profile (CPT 2000), Hepatic Function Panel

*** Does Blue Cross & Blue Shield cover testosterone free/ clear tests? How can an MD justify such a request for lab work? What should I tell him?

What an asshole !

He did not even test you for your Testosterone levels !

Tell him that you are tired all the time, unmotivated, and that you can't get it up. :)

If he won't listen to you, get another doctor

Yep.......

Or better yet don't even waste your time with stupid general docs and get a referral to an endocrinologist. More and more I've found I've had to tell friends and relatives this because regular docs are just too stupid and don't care if your Test levels are 300 ng/dl.

Most doctors are fuckin assholes. I used to go to the dermatologist for acne and they would always look at me and treat me like a baby because they said there are people out there with more problems. This made me want to strangle the bitch. If I go to a medical professional I expect to be treated for whatever is aliling me regardless of their outlook on the situation. Put the dumb fucks in their place I have asked them many questions that I knew the answers to just to see if they knew, they didn't. Sorry guys these kind of people piss me off grrr.

Try and find a sports Doc in your area. Most of the time the local family doc has as much info as a door knob when it comes to the fitness lifestyle.

The won't always be the solution, though. My primary care doc was actually ready to put me on test, but then she decided that I should go to an endo for a second opinion. For some reason the endo didn't see any problem with a 26 yr old having test levels in the mid 200s. I even went to a second endo after that only to get the same response. It's amazing to me how they will freak out if any other parameter of your blood work is even slightly outside the normal range, but if you have extremely low test, they will just say that it is "a little low" and to give it a couple of months and check back again. FWIW, I blame most of this problem on our stupid government for demonizing certain drugs. Another example of this is how many docs would rather have you take liver-toxic doses of NSAIDS than give you the opiate you need to control pain.

It depends on your age, if your 21 a doctor may have a little explaining as to why he would want testosterone done. If your 35 not only will insurence cover it , in many cases they will pay for your juice.

what is the normal range of test levels?

I had mine checked 2 days ago, should get the results by early next week.

Normal range varies by lab but usually 300-1000 is standard (this is for total test). But keep in mind that these "normal" or referrence ranges are a joke. The way these ranges are calculated is to take the mean +/- 2 standard deviations. That means that someone near the bottem end of normal has levels lower than 90% of the "population." To make things worse, the sample population used to come up with these ranges includes many people who have low test, such as old people. So if you are near the bottom of normal, you are pretty much fucked because your levels are way too low, yet most doctors will refuse to treat you since your levels are technically "normal." Some labs will report age specific normal ranges but don't count on it.

HELLO everyone, thanks for the numerous replies I got on my thread. I hadn't been back up here since then because my cable modem was down "thanks to the hurricane" and I had to connect via dial up. Now my cable modem is back up and this was my first stop..!

Yeah, this guy is a rural medicine MD - so I'll get a referral to an endocrinologist and see what he/ she says...

About insurance - how can I get insurance to cover the therapy if I'm only 24? Also, I'm hoping to not have them say this is a pre-existing condition because I just got Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC about a month ago, but these test results weren't taken in my name, so I should be okay.

get a hormone panel done and send the results to swale at allthingsmale.com i think he can help you out from there.

Age isn't going to matter. Just the medical condition.

Plus I think Blue Cross/Blue Shield covers Test Cyp & Test Enth. :)
