Muscle growth and proportionality.

i've been reading around and i read that the body needs to grow proportionately.

Is it true that without working legs/back other body parts such as arms and chest wont grow? Does this hold true for AAS users to, or just a natural athlete?

Why would you only want to work your arms and chest, youd not only look dumb it's also unhealthy
I have seen guys in wheel chairs bodybuilding they do have a larger upper body and thin legs so I guess you could only do upper body. I don't do any heavy leg workouts had a motorcycle accident and messed up my back. but that's just my .02 Cents

i think it's more that when you work your entire body, especially legs, it gets your hormones pumping like GH and Test. Bro science? maybe, lol.

I've seen guys that literally only train bis and they do have huge biceps, but a scrawny chest, back, legs, and they look fkin rediculous. it's like a female with huge biceps lol.

when you throw AAS into the mix I think it probably doesn't matter as much, but who cares, just work your whole body. not just for looks, but for health. being all upper body sucks for your back and legs.

Obviously i'm not talking about people who are unable train certain body parts due to injuries/disability, I'm talking about normal guys. People who just straight up neglect to train certain body parts at least every once in a while are bound to look and perform less than ideal.

We used to call them training 'SATURDAY NIGHT" muscle s and yes I too was one of them back then. And looked like a light bulb lol

Training back and legs will improve over all muscle growth.

leg training and especially squats if a person can do them, will add size on the whole body. I read this and will try to find the article. the main point was that it stimulated the growth of all muscles involved, as squats use almost every muscle in your body if you think about it. I'm sure heavy leg presses would be similar, but do yourself a favor and don't just train your beach muscles....lol......even with small upper bodies soccer pros still look good with the big leg development, but it doesn't work with no legs and good upper body. my 2cnts.

If you can find find that article i would definitely appreciate it. I've bin trying to find solid research on that topic which supports that theory. I've recently started doing legs again a few months back after not training them for 3 yrs because of a hip injury. since I've bin doing legs and progressing more and more and getting stronger the growth of them was shocking to me because of not doing them for so long, i thought they would take years for them to grow and i also feel more stronger with other body parts and its like i got a extra kick since i started legs.

If you don't work back or legs, the only thing not gonna grow is you back and legs. Why would your chest not grow if you didn't train back or legs, your still training your chest right? I will say this though, if you want to improve you upper body and put some size on and make everything grow........train legs.

I saw a guy a couple weeks back that was huge up top, and his legs looked like tooth pics. Dont understand why someone would train like that. Yes, he was more than capable to train his legs.

Squats DO NOT add size to the whole body, this is grade A broscience.

This idea came from the fact that whole body moves like squats increase test & gh output BUT the increase is so small that it makes zero difference for muscle growth.

I train natties for a living, squats only work the shoulders/back in an isometric fashion - its abit like doing planks to add mass to your abs...good luck with that.

As shredder stated: dont work legs = no legs growth.

Btw any article stating that whole body moves lead to more growth PLEASE post it & watch me tear that shit up :)

I do recall a book which talked about this very subject in depth with many bodybuilders, weight trainers. It was a book called BIG by a popular bodybuilder in the late eighties and early 90's by the name of Eddy Robinson. I may still have it but you know the likelihood of getting gym books back when you lend them to your buddies...lol
That book had some interesting ideas in it. hope that helps.

Ok maybe not squats, BUT try 3J'S back work out with the deadlifts(please good form, or limp like my fat ass) and I feel every fucking muscle worked. Dead lifts HAVE to be the perfect exercise. This is MY "Bro" Science***55357;***56883;

That's another common broscience myth - the deadlift is actually designed to be a leg exercise, not a back workout.
If done with good form (I've seen some horrible stuff in the gym), the deadlift works your hams/glutes primarily with the back acting purely in an isometric manner.

I always get questions from clients on splits asking whether to put deadlifts on back or leg day: it belongs on leg day BUT I think alot of guys are scared to do squats/deadlift/leg press on the same day so they give me the "I feel it more in my back" excuse ;)

As an ex collegiate powerlifter I trained the big 3 on separate days but that was for a higher total not to build a physique and on dead day s I did 6-9 ancillary movements like lat pull s seated rows 1 arm db rows.

I agree w ancient science that building your strength in the leg back department will make your whole body stronger.

But I m old..still have a flip fkn phone.

Zilla ,all due respect, it may be bro science but I've been training for 25 years and I believe in the theory that squats do put size on your whole body. maybe I'm old school, but it works in my experience. besides, if it will inspire people not to skip leg training, it can't be a bad thing right? :)

I'm all for training legs dude, but the "theory" that squats or deadlift or whatever compound move puts size everywhere is factually incorrect; simple biomechanics shows this.

If squats build the whole body then why do other exercises?
Why not simply do bench press, squat & deadlift?
If whole body moves are really that great then why aren't bodybuilders doing clean & jerk, snatches, etc?

The fact is these exercises will only build overall mass for complete beginners, not for experienced guys.
Whole body moves allow your body to perform more efficiently, using each muscle a little bit rather than one muscle completely.
This means its impossible to reach failure/have the right time under tension/focus on the eccentric portion of the muscle worked because there are a bunch of other muscles helping out. This is bad news if you actually want your muscles to grow.

Using the squat as an example: all your upper body is doing is stabilizing the bar - its an isometric exercise for your upper body. There is NO eccentric portion to the move, NO time under tension, NOTHING to really stimulate upper body growth.

No disrespect either dude but I'm stating facts :)
When you train natties who are elite bodybuilders like me, you have to know exactly what the biomechanics of differeny movements are - as in what they are actually working.
