Must have gym equipment you would want in your gym

Roush

I am banned!
I'm thinking of opening up a private members only gym. Space would be limited, 1500 sq feet or so is all.

other then the big 3 (squat rack, dead lift, bench) . what are some must have equipment you would pick to have in your gym ?

Dumbbells and hammer strength equipment. Dumbbells would be a must have. I use them for a wide variety of my workouts.

You said bench and you mean benches, like flat rack and incline bench rack and decline bench rack
Various plain adjustable benches for the dumbbell workout. A station with a pull down and seated row machine for back. that can be incorporated in adjustable or non- cables. a rack (small) or fixed weight curl bars as well as some Olympic short curl bars with a small tree of plates 5,10, 25lbs.

Mirrors are a must, gotta see what's happening day in day out. No place like gym mirrors to see!
I owned a gym in 87'-91',,, 3,450 sq feet.

There is a lot of used Equip out there because the Fitness places compete with the Suzie home makers and Bob the handy men. All their equip must be beautiful and up dated all the time. Even the plates. They are all going rubberized coating. Real hard core BB don't need all that.

There are gym junk yards that have good n nice equip, buy it is an investment. The rent is the big ball buster with utilities.

Need to do a good bit of research depending on you goals.

All my pictures got locked up with much of what belonged to me during the bankruptcy. Couldn't afford to pay to get out of storage. so no can show n tell

all the stuff you guys mentioned

not a must have but one thing I really really miss that no normal gym has is the jammer press. We had it in our high school and College(mainly football players use it). This thing was intense. For those who don't know what I'm talking about:

Think I'll go with stations for dead lift, squat, and bench . then the rest will mainly be set up with a variety of benches and dumbbells, hammer strength equipment, seated cable rows, T-bar rows, cable cross overs, etc.

maybe additional cable equipment , cables provide a lot of tension and seem to help a lot of guys with 'mind muscle connection' , also help get the muscle group fully lengthened and shortened but still under tension at both extremes of the movement ,, something that can't be done with free weights.

any 'must have' machines that come to mind ?
leg extension (no other way to do leg extensions without a machine)

Man what about BACK day. Ya gotta have pull downs and at least one seated row. For some people seated row is less harmful to their lower back being controlled a little better then just Bent rowing. IMOP. I got a lot of my width (long ago) with wide grip behind the neck pull downs
.

true, lat pull down is a must have machine as well. a set up for pull ups and dips is needed too

Cable tower (adjustable) is needed. Triceps push downs, crossovers, cable curls, face pulls, etc - all rely on such piece of hardware. ;)

That'll be equipment numero uno ! you can get a an entire upper body hypertrophy workout in on cable tower with a handful of attachments.

Oh this is fun.... I wanna come help set it up lol :)

I'm prob about 6-12 months out . have some real estate investments I'm cashing out first to raise funds. I've got a gym in my house, and I'm a member of a gym down the road . BUT, really there are virtually NO bodybuilding or strength gyms in my area what-so-ever. Thats why I'm thinking of opening it up as a 'private' limited members only type of gym; want to keep it limited to people that are focused on the sport and not the run of the mill gym crowd that are at the corporate gyms now a days.

got lots of planning, details, due diligence, and market research to do first . We'll see what happens

Now this is very true what I highlighted. It is very hard to make money or even break even with a small BB gym now days. We as BB are a small lot even plugging in Power Lifters. So if you want to just have it pay for itself only without a profit it can be difficult. You study up on all the variables of active and inactive members. Contracts vs no contracts. But as I said it's all about the cost of rent that's what I learned years ago. UNLESSS you have the Corporate franchise

SO what are you saying...no yoga/ fitness girls in tights wearing thongs underneath??!! Thats a must have at any gym I go to;-)

Good Luck with your Gym idea Roush! You ever heard of PowerShack? Its a profitable little BB gym around here, sounds alot like what your trying to do. The regs make the place. 99% of the members are likeminded, with body building fitness goals. Its great. Alot different from you big corporations that remind me of high school or a singles chat place.

thats easy,, I'll just have my girl show up in yoga pants (no thongs underneath though, she prefers to workout without panties) and then offer 'free' memberships to any ladies that work as strippers

A simple universal gym w cables a row and lat pull. You can get very creative and you can buy all those different grips and handles...many possibilities w it

Errrrrrrrrr, the equipment sounds like I could get a serious pump goin' bro!

seems like a solid business model , the 'free' memberships given out to the ladies will more then pay for themselves with the guys who will want to join for the great equipment and awesome 'eye candy'
