New here, back injury and usuage question.

So, almost 2 years ago I slipped two disks in my lower back. Too many years working heavy line as an auto/diesel tech, I guess. I didn’t get the surgery, I did PT instead, which worked very well but, I still have consistent low levels of pain, more or less everyday.

I have been working out up to 5 days a week, lost 30 lbs and put on most of the muscle I lost in the past few years. I find that when I stress my lower back muscles too much lifting, it aggravates the pain up. I want to be able to recover faster and build up my lower back larger quickly to help relieve the rest of the pain that is left over.

What do you guys suggest I use to facilitate that?

I have a 2 level fusion in my back and I just learned to work around by NOT doing anything that causes spinal compression ...like squats or going too heavy on shoulder presses. I stick mostly with cables and machines in the gym. You'll learn what to do and not to do. Deadlifts are a total no no!

Thanks for the advice,

Deadlifts make my back feel cold and numb, I'll stop doing those. I already stopped doing bent over rows. And I think I'll stop adding weight to my military press.

What should I replace these with though?

I got the same injury, i did mine last year and only had PT, like the guys say above I no longer squat or dead lift but just work harder on other things. afetr every session whatever the spilt I alway do some core strengthening stuff with ab work.... stuff like planks, face down shoulder raises etc i find it helps alot.

3 fully ruptured discs, did a cycle of test and deca, (only 6 weeks), feel great! Like others have said avoid squats and dead lifts. Do lots of core, back extensions, if it hurts dont do it. Critical to stay active, and stretch like crazy. Massages are great. Keep hamstrings, glutes and hips loose. Stretch, stretch, stretch, make it part of every workout.

I still do shoulder press but do it in a slow controlled movement which burns like a Mutha! I do mine on a smith machine with only 55-65lbs on each side. Do dumbell raises with thumbs up....straight in front of you then off to the side (45 degree angle)till it fucking hurts and your screaming (20lbs each hand)
I drop set the two , so it'll get the job done...trust me! If you do them right you will be almost crying with pain!

Anytime bro....thats why we are all here....because we are not all there:)
I don't know it all but I'm trying to learn it all.

One important thing.....don't ever resort to taking pain meds , such as Vicodin/Percocet or Oxycontin! Unless you have surgery of course. But what really kills BB's isn't the gear...it's the pain-killers some of them get into. This guy at my gym was a monster and he went down to 155lbs and eventually got hooked on heroin.
I am saying this out of personal experience for myself....I got hooked and landed in places that make Iraq look like a playground.
Peace Oz

Definitely!

I had a full year of pain killers. Been off for almost 8 months. The withdrawals were awful, but I was able to kick them, I have a strong personality for about everything except for over eating haha.

I have been going through the same back bain and am getting epidurals they really help loosen the pain and allow you to start to get back in to minor lower back exercises. someone had mentioned they used Deca before did that really help? Also when you did the Deca did you spot shoot it just curious? Havent messed with deca too much wondered if it really helped or if it was BS

Spot injection would do absolutely nothing. I think a little water does some good , but not too much. NPP (nandrolone phenylprop proprionate seemed to help my joints a little.

Nandrolone has always helped with all my pains. For instance last cycle my ankle was fucked up. I could barely squat 135 for reps. One month in with the Nandrolone Phenylpropionate I was back to putting 315 on for reps. The cycle Im in now I was experiancing problems in the knees and now they feel great. Only two cycles with NPP and it's been the wonder drug for me.
