Newbie advice - TRT vs clomid

Hi all,

I've read a lot of the FAQs on this forum and I'm trying to inform myself as much as I can for what is a new subject for me. I'll try to keep my question as brief as possible, but just ask for any other info that could be useful.

I saw a doc about 4 weeks ago, and after running blood tests agreed that I could start TRT. So I was injected with enanthate and asked to return in 6 weeks time - I presume to retest levels and any other effects ? I don't know if this was standard practice.

In the meantime I see some people advocating for trying clomid instead of TRT.

For one thing, it strikes me as potentially better since it is way cheaper and easier to consume.

But I'd love to know what some of you experienced users think.

Thanks.

lol@6weeks. these doctors are doing you more harm than good. educate yourself dont be lazy and dont leave it in the hands of the docs its your health

During my initial treatment attempts, one of the docs prescribed Clomid instead of Test cyp. I don't recall the Clomid dosage, but that raised my total testosterone level to the same level as I achieved when I was injecting 100 mg of Test cyp once per week. The nice thing about the Clomid was that it didn't cause severe acne like the test cyp did and it was nice not having to stab myself. I was only on Clomid for a few months, so I can't speak to the long terms affects.

Can we see your full bloodwork please? You haven't provided much information yet but it seems as though your doctor is clueless.

What dose test did he inject you with?

Are you doing bi-weekly or weekly injections for the next 6 weeks, or did he give one ONE injection and send you on your way??

Clomid vs TRT is very much person dependent. As you mentioned clomid has some benefits over TRT but for other people TRT is the way to go.

The red flags I'm seeing here are:
1) Your doc only pulled one blood test?
2) You don't seem to know the dose?
3) He jumped straight to TRT without looking at other options, restarts, etc. first??

Let us know asap... what your doc is doing may well end up doing you more damage than good. A lot of docs are clueless when it comes to TRT, which is why we've all educated ourselves. Some of us even teach our doctors a thing or two.

Are you serious? You doctor seriously did that to you? If you are telling the truth you should sue him or punch him in the nose.

Hi everybody,

Firstly thanks hugely for the responses here. When I saw the doc 4 weeks ago, I was totally uninformed, I'm trying to reverse that. I didn't know the questions that needed asking, I suppose I just assumed that he would know the right thing to do.

I can definitely confirm that I was given one injection of Nebido 1000mg/4ml from the pharmacy receipt. I was instructed to come back after 6 weeks, which is in about 10 days time now. I had assumed this would be some sort of verification, and probably the normal thing to do. But it seems like it isn't.
I'm not sure what to expect when I go back, more blood work ?

As for the blood test, I've attached it but the printer the doc had needed more toner and so the quality is shit. But you can still make some of it out. I've circled the T reading in red - please ask if you need help deciphering other parts, I can probably make a good guess.

Note I'm in Switzerland, so the results are in French, and the docs here think they are doing you the biggest favour in the world by printing out a blood test ..

Probably very unlike the service you expect if you are stateside.

Thanks!

First of all there is a HUGE difference between Testosterone Enanthate and Nebido. You told us Enanthate was injected. Now you are saying Nebido. So which is it? Again, HUGE difference as their half lives are very different.

Can you type in the labs results. I cannot read your picture. If you don't know what it says either, call and get the numbers/names read to you.

Hi again,

Thanks yes I can confirm that it was Nebido 1000mg/4ml after rechecking. I don't know why I'd mixed it up.

I will ask for the blood tests to be reprinted when I see the doc again in about 10 days time, and then repost them.

In the interim, can you tell me if this waiting 6 week thing is necessarily bad ? Have you ever heard of this before with Nebido ?

If the doc seems really bad, I'm wondering if I should ditch him already.

Also, can I have some opinions about the Clomid please ?

Thanks once again.

Waiting 6 weeks for your next injection is normal with Nebido. It has a long half life. I personally would want to pin it more frequently, but that is commonly what docs have one do.

I can't advise you on Clomid without know what your LH, FSH and Prolactin came in at. Clomid only works (sometimes) for Secondary Hypogonadism.

Thanks!

That is at least reassuring about the nebido.

As for the blood test, I don't see anything resembling the LSH or other things that you mention. I suppose that for this I would have to request a special blood test myself as it is not normally covered, correct?

Too late as you have now taken exogenous testosterone. Unless you tested it before going on TRT you missed your chance. It is standard procedure to check (except prolactin sometimes) them in making the diagnosis for Hypogonadism however so I would imagine you have them - unless there was another clear reason for your Low T.

As Trump says:
HUGE....HUUUUGE!

Followup : test results (originals from 6 weeks ago)

PSA 0.43

Prolactine 9.6

FSH 2.4
LH 1.6
Testosterone 9.2
Dihyrdotestosterone 0.72

No new blood test taken today. To return in 6 weeks for a blood test and presumably another shot.

Thoughts wrt Clomid ?

Can you include the units of measurement + reference ranges. I'm assuming T is in nanomoles, that's awfully low.

I'm confused - are you on injections at the moment or not? I'm assuming the nebido is releasing so slowly it hasn't fully suppressed you yet. How are you feeling, pretty crappy?

In regards to clomid, theres no point. If your on injections clomid can do nothing for you. You would need to come off completely and then run it. Even so, we have no idea whether it would be a good choice for you or not as we don't have your natural bloods... the above is exogenous so it means next to nothing in regards to SERM therapy. The choice is yours...

Last year, after not having run a cycle in years, I was tested with a total T level of ~250 and after 3 months of .25mg clomid/day, went up to over 900. But that's just my experience.
