I am banned!
I'm getting my wife in the gym and she is wanting to work on the fitness model look. She's 30, 5’3", 125-130 lbs and fairly trim. Probably 18-20% bf. Just curious what workouts y'all have been doing to obtain or maintain this look. I'm still trying to break her of the mantra of light weight more reps. Told her if she wants that look that she needs to stack the weight so that she can only get 8-10 reps per set. Her proposed routine would be weights on mwf. Shoulders/tris-legs-back/bi. Cardio would be 5 days a week and would include hiit on non weight days and low intensity on weight days

Hi,

You should have her join, it's always better for her to get first hand advise/guidence..
How's her diet ? The #1 thing she should be focusing on is diet, she needs to understand & tailor her diet to meet her specific needs...
As far as a good training routine for her, that depends on her current fitness level, how long has she been training & how does her routine look like now ?
A "fitness model" look takes a lot of hard work & dedication & most fitness models don't look year round the way they do on shoots & mazgazines... there's a lot of manipulation & preparation that goes into getting themselves to look how they do on shoots... I'm not saying your wife can't achieve a "Fitness model look" just want her to keep this in mind so she doesn't set unrealistic goals.

A slipt routine works best for me personally, as far as the "lighter weigtht" higher reps vs "higher weight" fewer reps is not really as important as making sure to keep your muscles challanged, she needs to change her routine every few weeks so she won't allow her body to "adapt"..
She can also incorporate supersets & as far as cardio goes I'm a big fan of HIIT, she can do it on her days off since is so physically demanding.. on her lift days she can do cardio post lifting.

Hope she joins :)

This... So many people don't realize that and spend there time trying to achieve a look year round that their Idol is only able to maintain for a few days or hours in some cases. If more people knew this I think we would have some less depressed athletes out there.

This is true specially with females, I think most often compare themselves to the women on magazine covers to then feel down because they don't look like that. Most don't really understand what it really takes to look like them.. Don't get me wrong I admire their dedication & hardwork..
but sometimes we haev this "idea" in our minds & invision ourselves having this "look" without realizing the sacrisfice, hardwork & extreme dedication that goes with it.

I have quite a few ladies that tell me they want to look a certain way, but have no clue how difficult it is... I think is great to have "goals" and to be determined in achieving them, & to always PUSH yourself beyong your limits... but it's also important to be realistic or u could be setting youreslf up for failure.
