Outer sweep

It`s genetic , you cannot put more emphasis on any specific quad muscle but you can use exercises that put more emphasis on the quads .

Probably not what you wanted to hear but this `s the truth .....

That's crap. To make the assumption of "genetics", you'd have to know what he looks like. C_K, there are exercises that will add emphesis to certain areas of the quad reigon. For more outter-sweep emphesis, I would try more hack squats. Add a few sets of box lunges as well. Start out while standing on a box, and step down. Instead of the other way around, which is the way they are usually performed. There is a good training article in this months issue of "Flex", that is written by Melvin Anthony--a guy who knows what he is talking about. You might want to pick that issue up. It has Coleman on the cover in a flannel shirt.

If all quad muscles attach to the same patella tendon (at the knee )how can you isolate any of those ????

BULLSHIAT !!!!!

BTW flex `s training articles are crap too ......

No, no you're right. You have no(that's Z-E-R-O) idea what this guy looks like where muscle structure/skeletal structure are concerned. He could have the longest, fullest muscle-bellies, with all the potential in the world, but is just a beginner doing something wrong pertaining to perhaps diet, form, or (over)training. Yet you are going to tell him that his lack of progress is simply "genetics", and that "he won't grow", and "that's the way it is", WITHOUT KNOWING any of that?! Again, your response was crap. I thought you'd go getting all pissy about it though. Guys who have a haircut like you, and have the balls to wear a superman t-shirt to the gym despite your lack of physical resemblance to him, can never admit when they are wrong. Which you certainly are.

The tension at that patella tendon will be the same no matter what quad exercises you do, but tension on the tendons at the other sides will vary depending on feet placement and exercise type. The tension different parts of the quads will therefore also vary. This is just simple physics. Try doing only one variation to complete failure and you will feel the burn in different parts of your muscles. In Fred Hatfield’s powerlifting book he claims that you can’t isolate parts of muscle groups. He also claims that all anabolic steroids hit the same receptors and there are no differences between them.

Thx for the advice. I'll give it a try. The gym I go to has limited equipment (machines and a smith machine) due to liability (it's also free to me! Employees ONLY). I love free weights but I use the smith and the cable cross over A LOT!
