Panic/anxiety and TRT for a 24 year old

Hey all,
I am new to the world of trt so be easy on me. I am inky 24 years old but I was recently put on trt after my endocrine discovered my levels we're in the low 200s. About 3 months ago I had my first panic attack out of the blue and since then my life has been slowly spiraling out of control with panic/depression and anxiety. I was told I had a chemical imbalance in my brain and have been out through two different ssris which have done nothing but made me feel worse. Deep down I kept telling myself there was something else wrong with me and that it made no sense I became a nutcase out of the blue. Sorry for the ramble but is it possible my condition was originally brought on from my low test and a hormonal problem? I have read that a sudden increase in anxiety and depression is a common symptom of low T and was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar before starting therapy?

Ya, I have always had anxiety for no reason whats so ever. When I was younger it presented itself in social situations but eventually I overcame that by becoming extremely social and comfortable. I have only been on TRT for a couple of weeks so I cant say if the testosterone is helping, but I do know that I am still always anxious for no reason at all.

Maybe the testosterone will help, who knows?

how long have you been on trt? are you using an aromatase inhibitor? if not your estrogen could be high from the trt which would cause the issues you have been talking about.

Check your estradiol level. Could be too high or too low. Some guys experience anxiety when this happens.

It would help if you could post your TRT protocol.

So all the issues I have started before trt. Right now I'm on androgel two pumps a day (again I'm not sure of specifics since I'm a new b at this) my doctor originally started me on clomid 25mg a day but literally after 3 days on that I felt the lowest I felt in a long time so that's why he switched me to androgel. The clomid was originally started bc of my age and in case I wanted to have kids in the near future. When I explained to my doc I don't plan on having kids anytime soon that's when he switched me to androgel. Again I have no idea what my estradiol levels are all he told me was my test is extremely low for someone my age. I have take androgel for one day so obviously I haven't felt the affects yet I'm just seeing if there is any similar stories out there bc this anxiety and panic has taken over my life for no reason.

Wouldn't hurt to check your eatradiol. It is just a blood test.

Have you talked to a psychologist to identify the cause of your anxiety and panic attacks? Sounds like you would benefit from cognitive behavioral therapy.

Do you know what your baseline SHBG was?
Androgel aromatizes into Estradiol.
Since you say you haven't used adex I would assume you are aromatizing quite well.
I to get anxiety, insomnia if my estradiol is high or very low.

Hey man make sure you get bloods to check your estradiol and every thing else of course! low T can be a horrible problem for some. The anxiety and depression can be overwhelming. Make sure you find a therapist you can talk to to really identify how you are doing week to week. Be patient as the androgel needs time to get ur blood levels to a stable level. You could very well feel much better quite soon. I take meds for anxiety and know how awful it can be. Keep your head up and think positive. Your taking positive steps and you WILL feel better. Sending good vibes to you my friend! All the best.

Psychologist ain't going to do nothing if you are genetically predisposed to having anxiety on top of low T.

Apollon with all due respect I disagree. Taking test injections and just waiting it out is not ideal lol. Especially when in a fragile mental state. Feelings of over whelming sadness and terror of panic attacks. To have a therapist monitor and encourage you through that period is a great idea and should be utilized. I have suffered with anxiety and il tell you while I was waiting for whatever medical intervention to begin working I was not in my right mind. To have someone to talk to and encourage was incredibly helpful.

I had severe anxiety. It got worse on TRT. I had a high HCG dose (5000iu x1week). I knew my E2 was high but I didn't know what the side effects were. Once on this board I got my E2 down and saw my anxiety almost entirely disappear.

I know what it's like to be depressed and always in fear of having an anxiety attack pop out of nowhere and the harm it inflicts on you mentally and physically. Keep seeing your doc, get your E2 tested as everyone else here has said. If E2 is a problem, adjust with the right meds and see how you feel from there. SSRIs need to build up in the body before they take effect and you may actually feel worse before you feel better. Keep that in mind. I'm not sure what specific SSRI you're on but for me every SSRI did the same thing. Neither was better or worse. Try to figure this out with your doctor.

Before starting therapy, I was apathetic. I was so apathetic about everything that I did not care one bit that I did not care about anything.

When I was on Androgel, I suffered severe anxiety attacks, paranoia, and rage issues. Turns out I cannot suffer one (or a combination of) the ingredients used in the transport gel for the testosterone. When I stopped using Androgel, all those symptoms went away. I then tried Axiron (the one used in the armpit), but it made me sweat - and I instantly sweated out all the product so it literally did not raise my T level anything. Now I am on injectable Test-Cyp and I am happy.

If you had low-lowish SHBG the Androgel is not for yoy. You will have run away Estradiol and Free T while on TRT.
You were very likely experiencing elevated ESTRADIOL.
Estradiol out of range causes anxiety, rage, insomnia, higher BP, water retention, libido and ED issues.
Guys who did not do well on androgel almost always do better on the shots.

They often can help you identify the trigger and find ways of dealing with it so that the trigger stops setting you off. And we don't know if OP is genitcally predisposed.

All transdermal Testosterone preparations increase dihydrotestosterone (DHT) concentrations, due to the presence of type 1 5--reductase within the Skin my friend. It is more likely Androgel is going to raise his Dht Levels and subsequently lower his estrogen levels.

Russell DW, Wilson JD. Steroid 5 alpha-reductase: Two genes/two enzymes. Annu Rev Biochem. 1994;63:25-61. And other studies have shown this as well.

If anyone has the time this is a great book on nerosteroids effect on the brain. It has a few chapters that covers sex steroids correlation to nerosteroids.

Yeah they probably can but if they are part of the socialized medical system I doubt they care to help. They'll tell you to keep taking your mass murder/mass suicide meds.
