Please share your wisdom for My husband - I needs guidance!

Thank you for not being frustrated at my lack of knowledge, I've really tried to learn as much as possible. I have one straight forward question,"In your opinion what is the safest/best way to use natural steroids to help with low testerone?" I've heard we can use a compunding pharmacy for cost savings but I'm not sure what to even ask his Dr. to write. His Dr. was ready to give him a shot in the office but I'm thinking we need guidance from people who care about doing it the right way not just making money on him.
4 quick facts:
1 My husband has always eaten well & worked out since highschool he's 47 6 ft 180lbs
2-11 months ago- He sufferered an injury working out on a machine (set up incorrectly) and ripped his pec mucles from his chest wall and had surgery
3-He recently has been experiecing TOTAL fatigue and I've done over 200 hours of research to get him help-short version - Hypothyroid isues and we've just got the correct medication and he is JUST starting to feel a bit better.
4-We have discovered He has low testerone and I just want to get this right for him so he can feel better. He is way too brain fogged and worn out to do this research on his own right now and he's very appreciative Im doing my best to help- he nursed me through cancer and chemo 2 times and it's my turn to help him.
5-He had bloodwork twice and a salivia test:
The Salavia Test showed Testoterone at 102 range 44-148 Estrodial at 1.7 range .5-2.2 Progesterone 18 (range 12-100) Dhea 8.4 (range 2-23)
Bloodtest at 8;00 am TESTOSTERONE 268 (range 241-827)
Bloodtest at 3:00 the afternoon! showed
LH 2.2 IN RANGE
FSH 3.5
testerone 219 low (range 241 - 827)
His iron is good BUT his cortisol is wacky (as in low in the morning and high at night) but we have been tracking temps and it seems we're lucky in that his adrenals seem to be "okay" meaning his daily average temps are staying within .2 of each other. He's always been great about supplements and vitamins but we've stepped it up adding adaptogens and specific vitamins and probiotics and other goodies. He just doesn't feel good and I KNOW having Testerone addressed will help with mental clarity, energy etc.

So I'll close saying can you please please share your thoughts...What should he be on and how much and for how long? What brand? Can it be compounded to be cheaper?

He deserves to feel good again and Low testerone can make anybody feel cruddy. I'll be happy to read all through the site but I'm so anxious to help him and knowing what you guys with experience suggest will help me feel better .Thank you so much for your time and experience You're truly appreciated!

first off good luck and I hope you get some information needed. For starters it will have to be something your husband wants to do and wants to get better. testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is not something you do once usually it will be for life. Which you can do gel which is fairly easy and older men from what I have heard do better with then young guys. But it seems younger guys and guys as a whole like and do better with injections. Which means a shot usually once a week, is that something hes comfortable with. testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) will most likely make him feel better but there side effects such as acne, shrinking of testicles, and lowered sperm count, which at his age those things probably dont matter. Not everybody experiences those things but a lot do, but most will probably agree the benefits out weigh the negatives.

You mentioned thyroid issues which can cause low T, it might be wise to wait a while and see if that changes anything first.

But as as price if you go with a doctor and insurance it should be relatively cheap and the same price as your standard Co-pays. If you go with a clinic like IMT thats a sponsor here I have no clue as to what straight up Testosterone cost for an average monthly supply. You may have to also use an anti estrogen such arimidex and an Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) which will keep your balls bigger and stimulate natural T production.

A standard dose as far as injections go is usually 100-200mg every 5-7 days, with most guys being in the 100-150 range. Gel from what I have seen seems to be 4-pumps a day, which 4 pumps is 2 bottles a month, i know that as when I used. Gel does cost more but if your under a copay is probably the same as injections. I didnt like gel either as its every day vs just once a week, but being older and if you dont like needles its definitely not a bad route if the stuff works

You are a very caring wife to be so thoughtful as to seek out this information for your husband and should be commended!!

You may want to just follow your doctor's lead, and see if he knows what he's doing with regard to Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). If he can get your insurance to help pay for it, it would help. If the doctor suggests injections any less frequently than weekly (using Test cyp) then I would look for expertise elsewhere. Winmag is right in that you might want to wait a bit to see if fixing the thyroid problem will correct his testosterone. If your husband does go on testosterone, it is usually for the rest of his life, and not just for a short period, so he should be comfortable with that idea. It took me a while to warm up to it.

Keep reading on this site, and ask questions. Good luck!

correct anything more than probably 7-10 days for each injection I would look elsewhere as he will have big time peaks and valleys as to how he feels. His iron is good so that should rule that out, along with not being overweight. I would check the cortisol out further as well and see if he needs something to correct that. His t levels are definitely low but for almost being 50 that dont seem to be astronomically low but are low. Also exericise can make a big difference.
