K, I keep reading guys on here mention Shirted benches. I ran a search and can't find anything. Someone please tell me what a shirted bench is, the suspense is killing me. :scratchhe

Probably somewhat yes. I didn't really intend to use one but my shoulders are hating me with the regular flat benching.

Can one of these shirts help someone lift better with existing shoulder problems?

yes and no.
you have to use heavier weights with a bench shirt - your shoulders can take a beating too but it will also protect them from other injuries.

Try switching to CG benching only for awhile, worked wonders for me, and it still hits my chest - seriously. Then again my chest always gets worked plenty, I never fail on the chest, always lockout or half way.

another option is reverse grip benches

I've had a lot of shoulder pain for about 6 months, and whenever I start moving the weight back up my shoulder joints get real sore. I've tried everything from hand position, keeping my elbows in, and lifting light every other workout.

I had it checked it out and the doctor told me that the cartilage between my scapula and humerus has worn out pretty bad and I have a bit of calcium building up along with a possible bone spur in the right shoulder. I have the X-rays that I can post later but he thinks surgery in a year is very likely. In the meantime I thought the shirt might help aleviate some of the stress and allow me to keep up the weight.

What do you do for shoulders? I do virtually no shoulder work, overhead pressing was killing me coupled with incline pressing, so I do incline pressing for 2-3 sets only. I do 1-2 sets of dumbell laterals, 1 set of very light rotator work, and occasionally rear laterals.

Sounds like you have a much more serious issue though.

I stopped doing overhead work for about a year now. I do standing front dumbell raises 3 sets, side lateral raises with cables 3 sets, then I do traps with the Smith machine 3 sets, rear delts the odd time depending on how the shoulders are holding up.

I notice the pain the most two days after doing chest. I have been doing flat and decline bench and I think I might drop the decline and see how that goes. Would switching up to flat dumbells help?

Thanks all for your advice.

Ahhhh I see.....So would this shirt make you bench more or less than raw bench?

more. way more.
once you learned to use it correctly though- the shirt won't lift the weight for you- it helps the bottom of the bench, where stress is put on the shoulders and where most people get stuck.
if you're having pain in your joint though, i wouldn't recommend using a bench shirt as a cure.
