2300 is most likely your BMR, which your body expends just to keep you were alive. Imagine you were in a coma... your body would be burning 2300 cals to stay alive. Daily life adds to that, plus training, etc.
According to the calc I used its my tdee with 3x week excerice frequency, keep in mind I'm not a large guy to begin with. In any case looks like the recommendation I'm seeing around the 'net varies a lot. How many cals should I be eating over maintenance?
