Single rep max

I made a bet with a friends dad that I could bench press 250lbs one time (He was running his mouth because I am 6'3 and weigh 183 and said that i was too skinny). I have never gotten that much but I did do 180lbs 16 times tonight. Just wonder what everyone thinks I could do.

according to my 1 rep max calculator that puts you at 266 for a single.
 
16x times with a certain weight seems like its a little too many reps to be very accurate for your 1RM
 
i wouldnt be pushing past 220 to quickly....... no point hurting your self trying to prove someone wrong.......
 
As long as your CNS is ready to go, if the max calculator says you can do it I have found them to be very reliable.

I have gotten 240 before but that was 3 years ago and I have been on again off again in the weight room. The reason why I only did 180lbs as many times as i could is because that is all the weights that I have here at my house. But hopefully I won't hurt myself on my 250 lb attempt.

As long as your CNS is ready to go, if the max calculator says you can do it I have found them to be very reliable.

This is probabley a dumb question but what is "CNS"?
 
believing in urself is half the battle, dont sacrifice form for pride, i see so many asshole benching in my gym they come within five inches of touching their chest what a joke!!! aww but anyway get a spotter an good luck, i just got 385 last week, i'm right around 203 lbs , YOU WANNA GET UR BENCH UP START SQUATTIN AND DEADLIFTING, i got my dead up to 595 and my squat to 545 , good luck and keep me posted
 
btw that is my raw numbers , i dont have a bench shirt or a squat suite , yet there are on their way :blue:

but give it ago and make sure your spotter knows what he is doing ;)
 
i wouldnt recomend doing that, but you said you have lifted weights before, so hell.

if you are gonna do it, give yourself time to eal from your last lift. Warm up properly, get a spot, and think of something to piss you off before you lift. When you feel your heart speed up, you just got your adrenaline rush and you are ready to go.
that adrenaline will give you another 15lbs i would be willing to say.
 
+15 for me would take having had the best sex of my life the night before, and 2 amonia caps up my nostriles, and a shot of suspension or few hours beforehand. Now I can lose 15, by being really tired from my day.

I like to have at least 3 warmup sets, and walk away from the bench before my set. I come back to the bench after putting my wrist wraps on, I plop myself down, get into the groove and go for it. I always have an MP3 player with me, metal around the clock. I never sit at the bench anymore, not for years.
 
man, if i go and get myself good and pissed off, my lift is noticably greater.
i dont do this often, as the chance to hurt myself is more, and i dont see the benefit of your body pumping out a catabolic hormone.
however, when trying for a PR, it has never failed me.
